H-beam Product Detailed Description

1. Product Definition

H-beam is an economical and high-efficiency section steel with a cross-section in the shape of the letter H. It consists of upper and lower parallel flanges and a vertical middle web. The inner and outer sides of the flanges are parallel with right-angle ends, also known as wide-flange I-beam and parallel flange I-beam.

2. Product Classification

2.1 Classified by Flange Width (Hot Rolled, GB/T 11263)

  • Wide Flange H-beam (HW): The flange width is close to the height, mainly used for steel columns and building frames.

  • Medium Flange H-beam (HM): The flange width is between HW and HN, applied to medium-sized beams and columns.

  • Narrow Flange H-beam (HN): The flange width is about half of the height, commonly used as steel beams.

  • Pile H-beam (HP): Thick flange and high rigidity, suitable for steel piles and foundation support.

2.2 Classified by Production Process

  • Hot Rolled H-beam: Rolled by steel mills with high precision, stable quality and complete standard specifications.

  • Welded H-beam: Made of steel plate welding, flexible for non-standard and oversized size customization.

2.3 Classified by Material Grade

  • Q235B: Ordinary carbon steel, widely used in civil buildings and factory buildings with high cost performance.

  • Q355B: Low-alloy high-strength steel, the preferred material for heavy-load, large-span and high-rise structures.

  • Q420 / Q460: Ultra-high strength steel, applied to large venues, sea-crossing bridges and other heavy-duty projects.

3. Specification Marking and Size Range

3.1 Specification Marking (Unit: mm)

H (Height) × B (Flange Width) × t1 (Web Thickness) × t2 (Flange Thickness)Example: H300×200×8×12

3.2 Common Hot Rolled Size Range

  • HW: H100–400, B100–400

  • HM: H148–594, B100–302

  • HN: H100–900, B50–309

3.3 Length

Standard lengths: 6m, 9m, 12m; customized lengths are available for welded H-beams.

4. Execution Standards

  • Hot Rolled H-beam: GB/T 11263-2017

  • Welded H-beam: GB/T 33814, YB3301-2005

5. Core Features

  1. Excellent Mechanical PropertiesWith wide flanges and thin web, it has high section modulus and moment of inertia, featuring strong bending resistance, compression resistance and torsion resistance, not easy to deform.

  2. Light Structural WeightIt saves 15%-20% materials compared with I-beam under the same bearing capacity, reducing foundation load and overall project cost.

  3. Convenient Installation & ConstructionSimple joint design, connectable by bolting or welding. Prefabricated assembly shortens construction period with easy transportation and hoisting.

  4. Good Seismic StabilitySymmetrical section and uniform rigidity effectively reduce lateral displacement, presenting better seismic performance.

  5. Eco-friendly & Durable100% recyclable, dry construction with low noise. With anti-corrosion treatment, it has long service life and low maintenance cost.

6. Main Applications

  • Steel structure construction: Beams and columns for high-rise buildings, factory frames, stadiums and steel residential buildings.

  • Bridge engineering: Highway & railway bridge girders, supports and guardrails.

  • Industrial facilities: Equipment supports, pipeline brackets, furnace frames and offshore platforms.

  • Underground engineering: Steel piles, foundation pit support and tunnel supporting structures.

7. Difference Between H-beam and Ordinary I-beam

  • H-beam: Parallel and equal-thickness flanges, no slope on inner wall, uniform stress distribution, high bending resistance and material saving.

  • I-beam: Sloped inner flanges with uneven stress, only suitable for ordinary beams and simple supports.

8. Packaging & Delivery

  • Packaging: Bundled delivery, each bundle is 2-5 tons. With anti-rust coating, product information is marked on the end.

  • Delivery Cycle: 5-7 working days for regular specifications, 7-15 days for customized products.
