Gabion mesh (also known as stone cage net, twisted wire mesh, gabion, triple-twisted machine-woven mesh) is a cage made of angular mesh (hexagonal mesh) woven by metal wires. The diameter of the metal wire used varies according to the size of the hexagon. If the gabion cage is made of metal-plated metal wire, the diameter of the metal wire used is from 2.0mm to 4.0mm. If it is a hexagonal mesh woven by PVC-coated metal wire, the outer diameter of the PVC (metal) wire used is from 3.0mm to 4.5mm. The wire at the outer frame edge is one size thicker than the hexagonal mesh wire.
Characteristics of heavy hexagonal mesh:
(1) Cost-effective. Just fill the cage with stones and seal it without special skills.
(2) Convenient for transportation. It can be folded for transportation and assembled on the construction site.
(3) It has a strong ability to resist natural damage, corrosion and adverse weather effects.
(4) It can withstand a wide range of deformation without collapsing.
(5) The silt in the gaps between the stones in the cage is beneficial for plant growth and can integrate with the surrounding natural environment. (6) It has good permeability and can prevent damage caused by hydrostatic pressure.
Plastic-coated gabion mesh is a cage made of hexagonal mesh (hexagonal mesh) woven by machine with metal wires twisted unidirectionally for two turns. The thickness is from 0.15m to 0.5m (including 0.5m), also known as stone cage and mattress. The gabion mattress is divided into several cells by partitions. In order to strengthen the strength of the gabion mattress structure, all panel edges are made of thicker steel wires.
Gabion mattresses are divided into two major categories: surface metal-plated and surface PVC/PE coated. The diameter of the metal wire used varies according to the size of the hexagon. The production process is weaving the mesh, cutting, edge locking and binding to make stone cages and mattresses. Stone cages and mattresses are supplied in a folded state.
Surface treatment
1. Electro-galvanized. The zinc coating amount is 10g/m2. Poor corrosion resistance;
2. Hot-dip galvanized. The zinc coating amount can reach 300g/m2. Strong corrosion resistance;
3. Galfan (zinc-aluminum alloy). Galfan is divided into two raw materials: zinc-5% aluminum-mixed rare earth alloy steel wire and zinc-10% aluminum-mixed rare earth alloy steel wire. It has super strong anti-corrosion properties;
4. PVC coating. The thickness of the coating is usually 1.0mm. For example, a 2.7mm wire becomes 3.7mm after coating. It has strong anti-corrosion properties.
Usually, the coated gabion mesh is made by wrapping a layer of PVC protective layer on the surface of zinc-5% aluminum-mixed rare earth steel wire and then weaving it into hexagonal meshes of various specifications. This layer of PVC protective layer will greatly increase the service life of the mesh, and through the selection of different colors, it can be integrated with the surrounding natural environment.
