254SMo (UNS S31254, EN 1.4547) is a super‑austenitic stainless steel with ultra‑high corrosion resistance, designed for extremely aggressive chloride‑containing environments such as seawater, brackish water, and acidic industrial media.

It contains high levels of chromium (20.18%), molybdenum (6.01%), and nitrogen (0.21%), giving it an extremely high pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN > 40). This results in outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride‑induced stress corrosion cracking (SCC), far exceeding that of 316L and common austenitic grades.

The alloy maintains excellent mechanical properties and toughness over a wide temperature range, from cryogenic conditions up to moderately high temperatures. It also features good formability and weldability, making it suitable for manufacturing complex components.

254SMo is widely used in seawater cooling systems, desalination equipment, offshore platforms, flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems, chemical processing equipment, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and fasteners exposed to severe corrosive conditions.
