Detailed Description of Flat Steel Products
Flat steel (also known as flat iron) is a long strip of steel with a rectangular cross-section (with blunt edges on all four sides), belonging to section steel, whose width is much larger than its thickness.
I. Specifications and Dimensions (National Standard GB/T 704-2008)
Specification Expression: Width × Thickness (mm), e.g., 50×5 (50mm in width, 5mm in thickness).
Common Range:
Width: 10–300 mm
Thickness: 2–60 mm
Length: Fixed lengths of 6m, 9m, 12m, which can be customized according to requirements.
Theoretical Weight: Weight (kg/m) = Width (mm) × Thickness (mm) × 0.00785
II. Material Classification
Carbon Structural Steel: Q235, Q345 (most commonly used, moderate strength and low price)
High-Quality Carbon Steel: 45#, 50# (higher strength and toughness)
Alloy Structural Steel: 40Cr, 42CrMo (high strength, wear-resistant, used for heavy loads)

III. Production Process and Surface
Hot-Rolled Flat Steel: Rolled at high temperature, with black surface, good strength and low cost.
Cold-Drawn Flat Steel: Drawn at room temperature, with smooth surface and high dimensional accuracy.
Surface Treatment: Black surface, smooth surface, galvanized, painted.
IV. Mechanical Properties (Taking Q235 as an Example)
Yield Strength: ≥ 235 MPa
Tensile Strength: 375–500 MPa
Elongation: ≥ 26% (good plasticity)
