Product Description: Steel Billet
1. Product Overview
Steel billet is a semi-finished steel product made from molten steel produced by steelmaking furnaces through the continuous casting process. As the core raw material for rolling finished steel products such as rebar, wire rod, section steel, bar steel and seamless steel pipes, it appears as long strips with regular square or rectangular cross-sections.
2. Product Classification
By Cross-section Shape
Square Billet: Equal or similar width and height, with side length of 100–200mm (small square billet) and over 200mm (large square billet), used for rolling section steel, wire rod and bar steel.
Rectangular Billet: Cross-section width-thickness ratio of 1.3–1.5, used for rolling shaped steel and narrow medium plates.
Slab: Width-thickness ratio > 3, used for rolling steel plates and strips (not a conventional foreign trade category of steel billet).
By Material Grade
Carbon Steel Billet: Q235B, Q195, SS400, S235JR, 3SP/5SP (for construction and general structures).
High-Strength Low-Alloy Steel Billet: Q355B, Q355C, S355JR (for high-strength structures and mechanical manufacturing).
High-Quality Carbon/Alloy Structural Steel Billet: 45#, 40Cr, 20CrMnTi (for mechanical parts, bearings and tools).
3. Size Specification
Standard Cross-section: 100×100mm, 120×120mm, 130×130mm, 150×150mm, 165×165mm
Length: 6m, 12m; optimized for export: 5.8m, 11.8m (container compatible)
Dimensional Tolerance:
Side length: +1.0/–2.0mm to +3.0/–1.0mm
Length: ±200mm
Diagonal difference: 3.5–8.0mm
4. Technical Parameters
4.1 Chemical Composition (Take Q235B as Example)
The chemical composition of Q235B steel billet is as follows: carbon (C) content ranges from 0.12% to 0.20%, silicon (Si) content is not more than 0.30%, manganese (Mn) content ranges from 0.30% to 0.70%, phosphorus (P) content is not more than 0.045%, sulfur (S) content is not more than 0.045%, and iron (Fe) is the balance.
4.2 Mechanical Properties
Yield Strength: ≥235MPa
Tensile Strength: 400–550MPa
Elongation: ≥21%
Cold Bending Performance: Intact at 180° without cracks
4.3 Production Process
Steelmaking (BF/BOF) → Refining (LF/VD) → Continuous Casting → Cutting → Cooling → Finishing → Inspection → Warehousing
5. Quality Standard
Executive Standards: GB/T 1499.3, ASTM A615, EN 10025, JIS G3112
Surface Quality: Free of cracks, double skins, scabs, inclusions and blowholes
Internal Quality: Dense macrostructure, no shrinkage cavity, segregation or internal cracks
Package: Naked or bundled, marked at the ends (heat number, steel grade, specification, origin)

Construction: Rolling rebar, wire rod, angle steel, channel steel, I-beam
Machinery: Rolling round steel, flat steel, forged parts, shafts, gear blanks
Piping: Rolling seamless steel pipe blanks, welded pipe blanks

7. Delivery Information
Delivery Condition: Hot-rolled continuous casting billet
Delivery Time: Shipped within 5–7 days after receiving advance payment
Delivery Port: Main ports in China (Qingdao, Shanghai, Tianjin, etc.)
Trade Terms: EXW, FOB, CIF
Packing: Naked or steel strip bundled, about 20–25 tons per bundle
