[Main characteristics]

The Lagerstroemia indica tree is a deciduous small tree. The height of the seedlings is 3~15 meters, and the diameter can reach 1 meter. The flower colors are diverse, commonly white, red, pink, and purple. The flowering period is long, starting in May and ending in September every year. The seeds mature in October. The Lagerstroemia indica tree is an excellent garden ornamental tree species and one of the excellent bonsai tree species. The bark is smooth, and the old bark falls off during the growth period. The oval leaves are opposite, the entire leaf surface is smooth, the twigs are green, and the inflorescence is conical. The Lagerstroemia indica only blooms on new branches, and there are no flowers on old branches.

Currently, various foreign varieties of Lagerstroemia indica are popular in the market, such as American Red Rocket, American All-year Red, Red, and Fast-growing Lagerstroemia indica. Changjing Garden advises you to be cautious when planting in new nurseries and not to blindly pursue new varieties. New varieties may not necessarily make money, and their performance varies in different regions. Landscape greening mainly uses native tree species, and the usage of foreign varieties is very small. Take the example of the American Red Maple. Although the price has been hyped up, the terminal usage is pitifully small, and it's difficult to sell the well-grown seedlings.

【Seedling Raising Experience Sharing】

Crape myrtle is a positive tree species. Its growth requires a large amount of water, fertilizer, and sunlight. The basic environmental requirements are fertile soil, smooth drainage, good ventilation, and a warm and humid climate. Crape myrtle trees have a lifespan of a thousand years. Propagation is mainly through sowing. This method has low costs and a fast propagation speed. The seedlings grown are the main seedling-raising method in various places.

The sowing season is from February to April. Crape myrtle seeds are extremely small and easy to collect. There is no need for germination acceleration when planting. The seedbed soil is required to be loose and breathable. Sandy soil with good drainage and irrigation is preferred. Before sowing, plow and crush the soil and pick out tree roots and weeds. After evenly spreading the seeds on the seedbed, sprinkle a layer of fine sand on it. Regularly observe the soil moisture, and the seedlings will emerge in about 10 - 15 days. In the initial stage, a sunshade net needs to be set up. Cover it for sun protection from 2 - 3 pm every day. Remove the sunshade net after 20 days.

If you want to cultivate a beautiful tree shape, it is necessary to stubble the seedlings once a year. The crape myrtle seedlings after stubbling can grow up to 2 meters tall and 1 cm thick in the same year, which can only be achieved with the cooperation of water and fertilizer management. It is recommended that the fixed pole height in the nursery be 1.2, 1.5, and 1.8 meters. Raise a part of the seedlings at each height to meet the needs of different customers and for forward-looking cultivation. It is recommended that the plant spacing for seedlings of 3 - 5 cm be 1 * 1.5 meters, for seedlings of 6 - 8 cm be 1.8 * 2.5 meters, and for seedlings over 10 cm be 3 * 4 meters. Crape myrtle is cold-resistant and fertilizer-tolerant. It needs a large amount of water and fertilizer during the growth period. Fertilize 2 - 3 times in spring and summer, using 80 kilograms of compound fertilizer per mu each time. Spread it before rain or bury it at the roots. Fertilize 1 - 2 times in summer and autumn, using 60 kilograms of compound fertilizer per mu. In winter, spread 3 - 4 tons of chicken manure, cow dung, and pig manure per mu. With a large amount of fertilizer to promote growth, it can grow 2 - 3 cm per year, and the economic benefit is very high.
