Cables for fixed wiring have rigid stranded conductors. Because unlike V75 and V90 flexible cords, they are installed in fixed positions along the planned route and do not require continuous movement.
These 5000.1 standard cables have a cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation layer with an operating temperature of +90oC, while the PVC outer sheath ensures that the cables are suitable for installation in underground pipes or direct burial.
These AS/NZS 5000.1 cables can be with or without additional protection in the form of steel wire armor (SWA). In specifications where there is a risk of mechanical damage, SWA cables should be considered, but it does make the cables stiffer, so it may vary at the installation points. The 5000.1 SWA cables have a very distinctive orange sheath. Both armored and non-armored 5000.1 cables use a narrowed grounding core.
