Stainless steel pipes are a type of hollow, long, round steel products, which are mainly widely used in industrial transportation pipelines for industries such as petroleum, chemical, food, light industry, mechanical instruments, etc., as well as mechanical structural components. Stainless steel pipes are classified by material into ordinary carbon steel pipes, high-quality carbon structural steel pipes, alloy structural pipes, alloy steel pipes, bearing steel pipes, stainless steel pipes, as well as bimetallic composite pipes, coated and painted pipes, etc. to save precious metals and meet special requirements. There are a wide variety of stainless steel pipes. Due to different uses, their technical requirements vary, and the production methods are also different. Currently, the outer diameter range of the produced pipes is 0.1 - 4500mm, and the wall thickness range is 0.01 - 250mm. To distinguish their characteristics, the pipes are usually classified in the following ways.
Production Method
Stainless steel pipes are divided into two major categories by production method: seamless pipes and welded pipes. Seamless steel pipes can be further divided into hot-rolled pipes, cold-rolled pipes, cold-drawn pipes, and extruded pipes, etc. Cold drawing and cold rolling are secondary processing of steel pipes; welded pipes are divided into straight-seam welded pipes and spiral welded pipes, etc.
Cross-sectional Shape
Stainless steel pipes can be divided into round pipes and special-shaped pipes according to the cross-sectional shape. Special-shaped pipes include rectangular pipes, diamond-shaped pipes, elliptical pipes, hexagonal pipes, octagonal pipes, and various pipes with asymmetric cross-sections. Special-shaped pipes are widely used in various structural components, tools, and mechanical parts. Compared with round pipes, special-shaped pipes generally have a larger moment of inertia and section modulus, and greater bending and torsional resistance, which can greatly reduce the structural weight and save steel.
Stainless steel pipes can be divided into pipes with uniform cross-section and pipes with variable cross-section according to the longitudinal cross-sectional shape. Pipes with variable cross-section include conical pipes, stepped pipes, and pipes with periodic cross-sections, etc.
