Rock failure and rock falls are ever-present dangers in underground mines. It's especially so where rock structures in subsurface excavations are left unsupported. The unstable mining tunnels and shafts threaten the safety of underground miners and mining devices as no matter what type of ore an operation is mining, there will always be risks of collapse or falling rock once the earth has been disturbed. As a result, establishing underground support netting is essential to provide necessary support for preventing collapse or falling rock and ensuring the safety of underground miners and mining devices.

Underground support netting is a physical ground support structure that is designed to provide necessary support for unstable mining tunnels and shafts, enhancing the stability of the underground mining system and ensuring the safety of underground miners and mining devices.

It commonly consists of high tensile wire mesh, soil or rock nails, spike plates, steel ropes and rope anchors. The underground support netting is commonly used to cover the roof of the roadway with high tensile wire mesh and fasten the high tensile wire mesh onto the mining surface with an array of rope anchors. As the high tensile wire mesh is flexible and can adopt to all kinds of mining surfaces and maximize its contact with slope through the pre-tension, thereby forming an underground support netting system that can provide maximum mining tunnel and shaft stability and ensuring the safety of underground miners and mining devices.

LONGEN system is a geohazard protection system specially designed for underground support. LONGEN mesh is the most important part of this underground support netting. It is a single twisted mesh made of high tensile steel wire with a diameter of 3 or 4 mm and a tensile strength of at least 1770 N/mm2, which makes the Mincon mesh have excellent resistance to mechanical stress and high impact forces. It features a rhomboidal-shaped mesh with a mesh width of 80 mm. The Mincon mesh is firmly fastened to the mining surface with an array of soil nails and spike plates to form an integral protection system that can bear the enormous weight of the roof mines.
