ABS Plastic - Performance Overview:

ABS is non-toxic and odorless, with an ivory colored translucent appearance, or transparent particles or powders. The density is 1.05~1.18g/cm3, the shrinkage rate is 0.4~0.9%, the elastic modulus value is 0.2Gpa, the Poisson's ratio is 0.394, the moisture absorption is<1%, the melting temperature is 217~237 ℃, and the thermal decomposition temperature is>250 ℃.

ABS has excellent mechanical properties and excellent impact strength, which can be used at extremely low temperatures; ABS has excellent wear resistance, good dimensional stability, and oil resistance, and can be used for bearings under moderate loads and speeds. The creep resistance of ABS is greater than that of PSF and PC, but smaller than that of PA and POM. The bending strength and compression strength of ABS are relatively poor among plastic materials. The mechanical strength of ABS will change with temperature.

thermal properties

The hot deformation temperature of ABS is 93-118 ℃, and the product can be further increased by about 10 ℃ after annealing treatment. ABS can still exhibit certain toughness at -40 ℃ and can be used within the temperature range of -40~100 ℃. ABS can be said to not deform under normal temperature use.

Electrical properties

ABS has good electrical insulation and is almost unaffected by temperature, humidity, and frequency, making it suitable for use in most environments.

Environmental performance

ABS is not affected by water, inorganic salts, alkalis, and various acids, but is soluble in ketones, aldehydes, and chlorinated hydrocarbons. It can undergo stress cracking when corroded by glacial acetic acid, vegetable oil, and other substances. ABS has poor weather resistance and is prone to degradation under the action of ultraviolet light; After six months outdoors, the impact strength decreased by half.

Fire resistance:

ABS has high fire resistance. Generally used for products such as computer casings and accessories, electronic products, and office machines that require compliance with UL94 specifications.

At present, the main types of ABS products with strong fire resistance include PA-761, PA-766, PA-765, PA-765A, PA-765B, PA-764, PA-764B, etc.

Heat resistance:

ABS has many types of products with high heat resistance, and these products are generally used for heating appliance casings, hair dryers, heaters, and automotive components such as instrument panels.
