1. Raw Material Preparation & Pretreatment
First, select high-quality raw materials: synthetic rubber (butyl rubber or EPDM rubber as the base), water-absorbing swelling agents (e.g., sodium polyacrylate copolymer), plasticizers, anti-aging agents, and vulcanizing agents.
  • Rubber Pretreatment: Cut block rubber into small pieces (5-10cm) and undergo mastication in an open mill (temperature: 50-70℃, time: 10-15min) to reduce its viscosity and improve processability.

  • Additive Mixing: Weigh swelling agents, plasticizers, and anti-aging agents according to the formula (swelling agents account for 20%-30% of total weight), then mix them in a high-speed mixer (1000-1200rpm, 5-8min) to ensure uniform dispersion.

2. Rubber Compounding (Mixing)
Transfer pretreated rubber and mixed additives into an internal mixer for compounding:
  • Parameters Control: Set temperature at 80-100℃, pressure at 0.6-0.8MPa, and mixing time at 15-20min. The mixer’s rotor speed (30-40rpm) ensures full fusion of rubber and additives, forming a homogeneous rubber compound.

  • Discharge & Cooling: Discharge the compound onto a cooling conveyor belt (ambient temperature water cooling) to lower its temperature to 40℃ or below, preventing premature vulcanization.

3. Extrusion Molding
Feed the cooled rubber compound into a twin-screw extruder to shape the waterstop strip:
  • Mold Selection: Install customized dies (according to product specifications: 20×30mm, 30×50mm, etc.) matching the cross-sectional size of the waterstop strip.

  • Extrusion Parameters: Control extruder temperature (barrel: 90-110℃, die head: 100-120℃), screw speed (20-30rpm), and traction speed (synchronized with extrusion speed) to ensure the strip has a smooth surface, uniform thickness, and no bubbles.

4. Vulcanization (Curing)
Convey the extruded semi-finished strip into a continuous vulcanization oven for thermal curing—this step determines the product’s elasticity and swelling performance:
  • Vulcanization Conditions: Use hot air circulation or steam heating, set temperature at 150-160℃, pressure at 0.3-0.5MPa, and curing time at 8-12min. Vulcanization cross-links rubber molecules, enhancing tensile strength and water resistance.

  • Precision Cutting: Cut the cooled strip into fixed lengths (2m, 5m, or customized) using an automatic cutting machine, ensuring length error ≤±5mm.

  • Trimming: Remove burrs or uneven edges on the strip’s surface with a trimming knife to improve appearance.

  • Multi-Item Inspection:

    • Appearance: Check for cracks, bubbles, or color unevenness (reject defective products).

    • Dimensional test: Verify thickness, width, and length with calipers and tape measures.

    • Performance test: Sample 1% of products to test water swelling rate (150%-300% required) and chemical resistance (immerse in 5% NaCl solution for 72h, no obvious degradation).

6. Packaging & Storage
  • Packaging: Wrap qualified strips in waterproof PE film, then pack them into corrugated cartons (mark product specifications, batch number, and production date). For long-length strips, use winding film to wrap them on paper tubes.
