A seamless steel pipe production line of a steel plant served by Aodong Electric Service has two 10KV busbars. Because the power factor does not meet the assessment standards of the local power supply department, the customer has been in a panic every month due to the electricity penalty and hopes to solve this problem as soon as possible.
Xiangyang Aodong Electric Co., Ltd. sent SVG engineers to investigate the production power load equipment on site, collect data, measure the power load condition, and issued a detailed "Power Quality Test Report and Suggested Solutions", from the perspective of system frequency, voltage, current, power and harmonic.
The analysis concluded that:
Based on test data analysis, field-provided parameters, and site requirements, two sets of 6Mvar SVG equipment were installed for each bus section, totaling two units. These SVG systems ensure both sections maintain a power factor of 0.92, meeting operational standards. Field testing results show the voltage distortion rate at 1.19% complies with national standards. The equipment provided by our company specifically compensates for reactive power to improve power factor. The existing local compensation capacitor banks continue to suppress harmonics and will remain in service as required.
After on-site survey, the reserved power distribution room is 11.5M long, 8M wide and 8M high. Because there is no space for laying the air-core reactor flat outdoors, and the height of the power distribution room is allowed, the air-core reactor can only be arranged by indoor superposition. This suggestion is highly recognized by the chief engineer of the owner.
Through meticulous preparation and over a month of production, transportation, installation, and commissioning, the high-voltage dynamic reactive power compensation device (SVG) with 10kV and 6Mvar successfully commenced operation at the client's site. The system achieved a power factor of 0.92-0.98, offering flexible regulation. Within just 20 days of operation, the client received positive feedback: the power supply department awarded over 30,000 yuan in electricity incentives for two bus sections functioning properly that month. This initiative not only resolved the client's urgent technical needs but also generated significant economic benefits.
