  • In the absence of a surge, its leakage current is extremely small (

  • Once a surge invades and exceeds its peak off-state voltage, an avalanche effect occurs. When the surge current surpasses the switching current, the device’s voltage drops to the on-state voltage (

  • After the surge, when the current drops below the minimum holding current, the solid-state discharge tube automatically recovers and returns to the blocking state.
