Incoloy 901 is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-iron alloy (UNS N09901) engineered with chromium, molybdenum, and titanium additions. This composition creates a dual-phase microstructure that delivers exceptional strength at temperatures up to 650°C (1200°F) while maintaining 20% elongation for ductility. The alloy’s low thermal expansion coefficient minimizes distortion under cyclic heating, making it ideal for gas turbine engine components exposed to rapid temperature fluctuations.
Tensile Strength: 1100 MPa (160 ksi) at room temperature, retaining >900 MPa (130 ksi) at 600°C
Creep Resistance: 1% deformation in 100,000 hours at 600°C/200 MPa
Fatigue Life: Exceeds 10⁷ cycles at stress amplitudes of 400 MPa
These properties are validated through ASTM E8/E21 tensile testing and ISO 12106 fatigue certification.
The alloy’s 19% chromium content forms a passive oxide layer, providing:
Pitting Resistance: Critical pitting temperature (CPT) >50°C in 3.5% NaCl solution
Sulfidation Resistance: No weight loss after 1000 hours in H₂S-containing environments at 500°C
Oxidation Resistance: Spallation-free scale formation up to 1000°C in dry air
Process Control: Vacuum arc remelting (VAR) ensures
Dimensional Accuracy: Cold-drawn bars achieve ±0.05mm tolerance per ASTM B637
Non-Destructive Testing: 100% ultrasonic inspection (UT) per AMS 2154
Gas Turbines: Compressor disks, blades, and spacers in GE LM2500 and Rolls-Royce Trent engines
Industrial Boilers: Superheater tubes in coal-fired power plants
Chemical Processing: Agitator shafts in sulfuric acid production units
