HTT-01 Hot Tack and Tensile Tester

Application

Hot tack is a critical property of heat-sealed layers, preventing the seal from breaking while still hot, especially in vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) processes. The HTT-01 Hot Tack and Tensile Tester assesses heat seal strength right after sealing and before cooling. Additionally, it serves as a horizontal tensile and peeling force tester for thermoplastic surfaces. This testing ensures the reliability and integrity of seals in various applications.

Significance

Hot tack is vital in VFFS packaging due to limited cooling time. Contents are introduced immediately after sealing, frequently with substantial weight. Hence, a robust hot tack force is essential for preserving seal integrity and averting potential spills or package failures.

Standards

ASTM F1921: Standard Test Methods for Hot Seal Strength (Hot Tack) of Thermoplastic Polymers and Blends Comprising the Sealing Surfaces of Flexible Webs

ASTM F2029: Standard Practices for Making Heatseals for Determination of Heatsealability of Flexible Webs as Measured by Seal Strength

Principle

The test begins by sealing a sample strip between two flat heated jaws, following precise parameters for temperature, contact time, cooling time, and pressure. Subsequently, after the specified cooling period, the sealed area is separated at the designated speed. The force required for this separation represents the hot tack force.

Technical Features

Here are the key technical features of the HTT-01 Hot Tack and Tensile Tester.

1. Control and Interface: PLC controlled with industrial-level stability and operated via an HMI touch screen.

2. Versatile Functionality: Performs hot tack, tensile, and peeling tests.

3. Integrated Testing: Combines hot tack, peeling, and tensile test capabilities into a single instrument.

4. Temperature Control: Utilizes Delta P.I.D. temperature controller and PT100 temperature sensor.

5. Sealing Jaws: Features aluminum encapsulated sealing jaws for consistent heating.

6. Adjustable Testing Speed: Allows adjustable testing speeds ranging from 1 to 2000 mm/min.

7. Safety Features: Includes auto zeroing, overload protection, and over-travel protection.

8. Data Management: RS 232 port and professional software for advanced data handling. (Optional)
