Main Features
The main characteristics of cadmium nickel batteries are:
(1) Electrolyte only serves as a conductor of current and its concentration does not change.
(2) The degree of charge and discharge of a battery cannot be determined by changes in the density of the electrolyte, but rather by changes in voltage during charging.
(3) During the charging and discharging process, as the electrochemical reaction intensifies, oxygen gas is released on the positive electrode plate, and hydrogen gas is released on the negative electrode plate·
(4) Sealed nickel barrier batteries are manufactured with excessive material on the negative electrode plate to prevent the release of hydrogen gas. The oxygen generated on the positive electrode is absorbed by the negative electrode plate due to electrochemical effects, preventing gas accumulation inside the battery and ensuring its normal operation under sealed conditions.
Usage Instructions
Many people use cadmium nickel batteries. But many people have not been able to correctly master the use of cadmium nickel batteries, resulting in expensive batteries being quickly scrapped, which is regrettable. Here we will briefly introduce the correct usage method of cadmium nickel batteries.
When using cadmium nickel batteries, attention must be paid to the following two aspects:
Pay attention to the charging current
Generally, it should be controlled at one tenth of the ampere hour (Ah) of the battery. The ampere hour of battery No. 5 (AA type) is 0.5~0.6Ah, so the charging current should be controlled at around 50mA; The ampere hour of the 7th battery (AAA type) is about 0.2Ah, and the charging current should be around 20mA. The charging current can be measured with a multimeter. If significant errors are found, the current limiting resistor of the charger can be adjusted. Fast charging batteries should be avoided as much as possible. When fast charging the battery, pay attention to the temperature of the charging battery. When the temperature reaches 50 ℃, charging should be stopped.
Pay attention to usage time
During the use of the battery, the voltage remains relatively stable, but after an overcharge time (T), the voltage will significantly decrease. In order to fully utilize the charging power, the usage time should be equal to the discharge time. The calculation method for discharge time is as follows:
If the charging current supplied by the charger to the battery during charging is i, the normal charging time is tc, and the current supplied by the battery to the electrical appliances during use is i., then the discharge time T=(i. × t)/id. When the battery reaches the discharge time after use, it should be charged in a timely manner
