The most important feature of high manganese steel is that under the condition of strong impact and extrusion, the work hardening phenomenon occurs rapidly on the surface layer, so that the hardened layer has good wear resistance while maintaining the good toughness and plasticity of austenite in the heart. This is beyond other materials. However, the wear resistance of high manganese steel shows its advantages only when it has enough conditions to form work hardening, and it is very poor in other cases.
The typical mn17 wear-resistant high manganese steel increases the amount of manganese on the basis of Mn13 steel, improves the stability of austenite and prevents the precipitation of carbide, which can improve the strength and plasticity of the steel and improve the work hardening ability and wear resistance of the steel. For example, the service life of zgmn18 railway fork used in the north is 20% ~ 25% higher than that of ZGMn13.
workmanship
Due to work hardening of high manganese steel, machining of castings should be avoided as far as possible. The holes and grooves on the casting shall be cast as far as possible. However, the processing of high manganese steel is not completely impossible. Tool dressing can be carried out after one feed. For inevitable machining, the machining amount should be enlarged in the casting process design to make the machining feed avoid the work hardening layer.
Surface Treatment
The temper of manganese steel is very strange and interesting: if 2.5-3.5% manganese is added to the steel, the low manganese steel is as brittle as glass and will break when knocked. However, if more than 13% manganese is added to make high manganese steel, it will become both hard and ductile. When heated to light orange, high manganese steel becomes very soft and easy to process. In addition, it has no magnetism and will not be attracted by magnets. At present, manganese steel is widely used to make frequently worn components such as steel mills, ball bearings, buckets of bulldozers and excavators, as well as rails and bridges. The roof of the auditorium of Shanghai's new cultural square adopts a novel grid structure and is welded with thousands of manganese steel pipes. In the 76 meter vertical and 138 meter horizontal fan-shaped hall, there is no column in the middle. Because manganese steel is used as the structural material, it is very strong, and the materials are less than other steels. On average, only 45 kg of manganese steel is used for the roof per square meter. In 1973, Xingjian's Shanghai Gymnasium (containing 18000 people) also used manganese steel as the structural material of the grid roof. In military affairs, high manganese steel is used to make steel helmets, tank steel armor, warheads of armor piercing bullets, etc. When smelting manganese steel, it is made by mixing soft tin ore containing 60-70% manganese with iron ore
Product Process
When the high manganese steel is reheated, there is a brittle temperature range of carbide precipitation between 250-800 ° C, and there are network carbide and casting stress in the as cast high manganese steel. Therefore, the welding performance is very poor.
For high manganese steel castings, the riser shall be cut or defects repaired by welding after water toughening treatment, and the castings shall be cooled quickly after welding. In order to eliminate or minimize the heat affected zone, small current, discontinuous welding, or watering while welding shall be applied for cooling. The welding rod adopts high manganese steel welding rod or austenitic stainless steel welding rod. If work hardening exists, it shall be removed before welding.
