Seeing that water reducing agent can improve the degree of hydration and save a lot of cement, the construction personnel mistakenly believe that the higher the water reducing rate is, the better when using water reducing agent in preparing commercial concrete, and even require a higher water reducing rate when preparing low-grade concrete.

Generally, with the increase of water reduction rate, the strength of concrete will be higher and higher. For the concrete with high water binder ratio, the water consumption is reduced, and the drying shrinkage of the concrete will also be reduced, which is of course very beneficial to improve the strength of the concrete and reduce the shrinkage cracking of the concrete.

However, at present, the water binder ratio of concrete construction is generally designed to be relatively low. Since the self shrinkage can no longer be ignored, if the water consumption is greatly reduced, the drying shrinkage inside the concrete will be increased, thus increasing the self shrinkage of the concrete.

In addition, the preparation of commercial concrete is generally mixed with retarders. Due to the slow hydration, the concrete will not set for a long time, and the water loss on the concrete surface is serious, which increases the risk of concrete shrinkage and cracking.

We can prevent the drying shrinkage of concrete by watering and curing, but the extremely low water binder ratio concrete is dense, and the watering can rarely penetrate into the concrete, and it is difficult to achieve the purpose of supplementing water shortage.

It is a common habit to reduce cement consumption by reducing water and increasing degree.

However, if the amount of cement is greatly reduced and the cement slurry is too small, micro cracks are more likely to occur because the cement slurry layer is too thin, the ultimate elongation of concrete is reduced, and the tensile strength of concrete is reduced. Excessive reduction of the amount of cementitious materials will also increase the elastic modulus of concrete. When the same dry shrinkage deformation and temperature deformation, the deformation stress increases, and the concrete is prone to cracking.

Some water reducing agents with high water reduction rate have poor water retention. If excessive water reduction increases the dosage of these water reducing agents, the concrete is prone to bleeding segregation, affecting the uniformity of concrete and adversely affecting the quality of concrete.
