In foundation engineering and deep drilling, single-wall casing is a specialized steel pipe used to stabilize boreholes in unstable soil conditions. Unlike double-wall versions, which feature an inner and outer shell, single-wall casing consists of a single layer of high-strength steel.
Technical Characteristics
Structure: It is a single-thickness steel tube, often reinforced at the ends with "male" and "female" joints (conical rings) for interlocking multiple sections.
Weight: It is significantly lighter than double-wall casing, which makes it easier to transport and handle with smaller cranes or drilling rigs.
Inner Diameter: Because there is no cavity between walls, the inner diameter is larger relative to the outer diameter compared to double-wall versions, allowing for slightly larger tools or reinforcement cages.
Common Applications
Single-wall casing is typically used in specific geotechnical scenarios:
Temporary Support: It is often used as "temporary casing" that is extracted after the concrete is poured.Stable to Semi-Stable Soils: It is ideal for ground conditions where the lateral pressure isn't extreme enough to require the heavy-duty rigidity of double-wall pipes.
Short to Medium Depths: Due to its lower torsional stiffness, it is generally used for shallower boreholes where high-torque oscillator forces are not as intense.

Connection Types
