Choice of hardness
When grinding new high-speed steel with ordinary abrasives, the choice of hardness should be comprehensively considered from the specific processing requirements, processing conditions and workers' operating habits. Generally speaking, for the rough grinding of the surface of new high-speed steel cutting tools, the hardness is selected from J~K, the hardness of the front and rear face of the tool is H~J, and the hardness can be selected from K~L when the tooth profile is finely ground. There is currently no hardness standard for cubic boron nitride grinding wheels. For a certain production unit, the hardness changes little, so there is no question of choice.
Choice of granularity
Under normal circumstances, the choice of grinding wheel particle size mainly depends on the requirements of working surface roughness and production efficiency. When grinding new high-speed tools, the surface roughness is generally required to reach 0.80~0.20um, which is easy to achieve, so when choosing the size of the grinding wheel, the main consideration is the grinding efficiency. Generally choose F46~F90 when grinding the tool plane, choose F180~F80 when sharpening the front and back face of the tool, choose F100~F120 when grinding the tooth profile, and choose F180~240 when grinding the tooth profile. For the new high-speed steel with high mechanical content, the grain size of the grinding wheel for tool sharpening should be one size thicker than the one with lower vanadium content.
