Understanding Karats
Since gold is a soft metal, it’s often combined with other harder metals when it’s used in jewelry to provide durability. In general,gold is mixed with silver and copper(Except 24K pure gold).Gold jewelry is measured in 24 parts, called karats (K), to indicate how much of the piece is pure gold. So, if gold is 24K, all 24 parts of the jewelry are gold. Jewelry marked 22K is 22 parts gold, two parts harder metals.which means,the jewelery including 22/24(91.67%) gold,the remaining 2/24(8.3%) belongs to copper-silver mixure,or copper,or silver.Thus, the lower the number, the less gold.
