ASTM A333 specification describes Low temperature service pipe applied up to minus 150 degrees Fahrenheit. These pipe are always provided in normalized condition with Charpy Impact V-Notch Test as per the temperature range requirements to assure compatibility with the applicable environments.
Low temperature pipe also known as LTCS pipe abbreviated as LOW TEMPERATURE CARBON STEEL pipe. Since heavier wall thickness has an adverse effect on the low temperature impact properties, the size availability is limited in this specification.
As per ASME sec II part D ASTM A106 and ASME SA 106 can be used up to 550 degrees Celsius A106 with a tensile strength of 11.2 Mpa whereas ASTM A333 pipe and ASME SA 333 pipe can be used only up to 375 degrees Celsius.
Specific Heat Treatment
ASTM A333 Grade 6 and ASME SA 333 Grade 6 are heat treated to achieve normalized condition @ 920 degrees Celsius with controlled microstructure.
LTCS pipe have high toughness values because of heat treatment (normalizing above 800C and quenching) applied during manufacturing process.
Flanges & Fittings
Flanges – A/SA 350 LF2, LF3
A/SA-420 WPL6, WPL3
Specific Impact requirements
The raw material used for low temperature service pipe is ALUMINIUM killed with high proportion of manganese (more than 1%) combined with low proportions of carbon (less than 0.23%).For low temperature pipe to be certified as LTCS additional impact test should be conducted at low temperatures, as per mandatory requirements in section 8 of ASTM A 333.
Size:
½- – 56- Outer Diameter & 15NB – 800NB Nominal Bore. Low temperature service pipe are supplied in single random length and double random length of 4-7 meters and 7-13 meters respectively.
ASTM A333 Specification pipe
ASTM A333 Grade 1
ASTM A333 Grade 1 Carbon Steel Seamless Pipes are Medium Carbon Steel Pipes with max 0.30 % carbon content with combination of 0.40-1.06 % manganese. These Pipes are most commonly used for general purpose applications worldwide. ASTM A333 Grade 1 Pipes are ductile and strong Pipes with long wearing properties. These Pipes are manufactured as per ASTM Specification and commercially referred as carbon steel Pipes.
ASTM A333 Grade 1 Specification covers nominal (average) wall seamless and welded carbon and alloy steel pipe intended for low temperature use. Several grades of ferritic steel are included like grade1, grade3 & grade6. Some product sizes may not be available under ASTM A333 Grade 1 Carbon Steel Seamless Pipes because heavier wall thicknesses have an adverse effect on low-temperature impact properties. ASTM A333 Grade 1 Pipes are supplied with NACE MR 0103 AND NACE MR 0175 certifications with additions of HIC testing at low temperatures.
ASTM A333 Grade 6
ASTM A333 Grade 6 Carbon Steel Seamless Pipes are Medium Carbon Steel Pipes with max 0.30 % carbon content with combination of 0.29-1.06 % manganese. These Pipes are most commonly used for general purpose applications worldwide. ASTM A333 Grade 6 Pipes are ductile and strong Pipes with long wearing properties. These Pipes are manufactured as per ASTM Specification and commercially referred as carbon steel Pipes.
ASTM A333 Grade 6 Specification covers nominal (average) wall seamless and welded carbon and alloy steel pipe intended for low temperature use. Several grades of ferritic steel are included like grade1, grade3 & grade6. Some product sizes may not be available under ASTM A333 Grade 6 Carbon Steel Seamless Pipes because heavier wall thicknesses have an adverse effect on low-temperature impact properties. ASTM A333 Grade 6 Pipes are supplied with NACE MR 0103 AND NACE MR 0175 certifications with additions of HIC testing at low temperatures.
