- Sun and planet gears have spur gear teeth are case-hardened and ground. Annulus gears are mostly quenched and tempered and shaped or ground, depending on size. Bevel gears are case-hardened and, depending on size, lapped, HPG-cut or ground. The gears and gear shafts of the primary gear stages have helical teeth and are case hardened and ground.
