A Total Cleaning Once a Week
Your Spray Gun should be torn down once a week if you are using it every day or before you store it for future use. Most spray guns come with a multi wrench for this job. I have found many of these wrenches to be a little loose, if this is the case, you may have to use a good one from your tool box. A loose fitting wrench can strip many parts so be careful.
1. soak your air cap and fluid nozzle/needle in gun wash or thinner
2. clean or replace any filters in the gun. On gravity feed guns, there is one between the paint pot and the gun.
3. look down the fluid passages to see any old paint residue and clean with a brush from your cleaning kit.
4. wipe down the paint cup and body with a thinner soaked rag, removing any old paint overflow.
5. Blow dry your components and reassemble, oil any threaded portions and needle packing
6. Look through the holes in your air cap in the light to see any restrictions. If there are any restrictions clean with a brush or use a needle with your cleaning kit.
Once your spray gun is assembled, test it out to make sure it is operating efficiently. It is not to much fun to have problems just before you are spraying a car
