Description:General specification: 1) Made from 261 rack partial, steering 2) All parts must be free of burrs and sharp edges 3) Heat Treat by hardening and quenching each area specified below, follow by furnace tempering for 1 Hr, at heat minimum a) Cases of depth specification are effective case depths SAE-J423 b) Run out to be within areas designated for each side of hardening pattern c) Harden tooth section as shown by shaded area d) In section A-A, area B, quench and temper 4) Harden seal ride area sections as shown in area C, quench and temper 5) Over the pin dimension to vary no more than 0.050 from tooth to tooth a) Tooth spacing error not exceed 0.025 b) Total accumulative error not to exceed +- 0.076 6) Dimensions identified, symbol are special characteristics and must be covered under a process control plan 7) Wash rack with CL-56 after grinding, coat must withstand 2 Hrs at 100% humidity per GM4465-P without exhibiting red rust 8) This surface to be radically polished. Surface finish to be checked longitudinally parallel to axis with a minimum travel length of 10mm with a filter cutoff of 0.8mm 9) Resultant dimension after heat-treat operation 10) Rack to be inspected with master pinion, reference pinion part 261 Refer to QCI#4 for tolerance allowance Installation angle of the master pinion axis 22.00 During inspection rack must be supported by a simulated rack bearing located directly opposite the master pinion and balanced without upsetting proper mesh between the master pinion and the rack Centerline of the rack to centerline of master pinion is 18.00mm All parts must be free, of burrs, sharp edges, nicks, and rusts Material: SAE J403 Grade 1141 Modified Yield (0.2% offset) 690 minimum MPa per ASTM E8M (0.2in/in./min.) after cold drawn and stress relieve. 29mm hot rolled round bar, cold drawn to 27.66/27.585mm, stress relieved, shot blasted and reeled prior to grinding to 27.31/27.234mm Dimensions identified, symbol are special characteristics and must be covered under a process control plan Parts must comply to purchase specifications 261
