Specifications: An aluminum drum, which is precision ground to very high tolerances to ensure a surface as close to circular as possible. The OPC drum turns in a clockwise manner, reverse to that of the Developer Roller. Coated with several layers of varying chemical formulae. The uppermost layer is known as the Charge Transfer Layer. The properties of these layers are such that they generate electrical charges when exposed to light(or in this case, a laser beam). The actual charges are generated in the Charge Generation Layer. At all points where the laser writes its image on the OPC drum, the resident charge is changed to a positive. When the OPC drum and the Developer Roller come in close contact with each other, the negatively charged toner will jump onto the positively charged images on the OPC drum. The toner now takes on this positive charge. The OPC drum remains negatively charged where no laser image has been written. Negatively charged toner opposes this charge and remains on the Developer Roller.
