Asphalt mixing machinery

Brief Introduction

Hot-mix asphalt concrete mixing plant machinery is a mixture of aggregate (crushed stone, gravel and sand) and asphalt binder.

The asphalt binder percentage of the mix can vary, but typically is in the range of 4 to 6 percent by

weight (the material quantities used in this study assume a 5 percent binder portion). Plants can be

either portable or permanent and may use a batch or drum mixer. Figure 1 provides a schematic of a typical permanent asphalt mixing plant.
