What are thermochromic pigment?
Thermochromism is the property of substances to change color due to a change in temperature. Thermochromic pigments allow for a visual response to changes in temperature. The pigments are composed of microcapsules that change color reversibly. When the temperature is raised to a specified temperature the pigment goes from colored to colorless. The color returns to the original color as the pigment is cooled down.
Thermochromic Pigment
Thermochromic pigment changes color dramatically (even from black to white) as the temperature changes. This pigment can be used in everything from custom paint to clothing. Our pigments have been used in everything from masks to motorcycles.
Thermochromics change as the temperature changes. As the temperature goes up, the pigment becomes colorless, revealing the base coat or graphics underneath. The helmet shown was a white base with a black temperature sensitive paint sprayed over it.
