The soybean or soya bean (Glycine max) is a species of legume native to East Asia, extensively grown for its edible bean which has numerous uses. The plant is classed as an oilseed rather than a pulse by the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO).

Soybeans initiated in Southeast Asia and were first Fat-free (defatted) soybean meal is a major and cheap source of protein for animal feeds and many prepackaged meals; soy vegetable oil is additional product of processing the soybean crop. For example, soybean products such as textured vegetable protein (TVP) are ingredients in many meat and dairy analogues.

Soybeans are a legume. They are high in protein and oil, making it a very useful crop for feed for livestock and food for humans. In fact, every 60-pound bushel of soybeans produces 48 pounds of soybean protein meal and 11 pounds of soybean oil. The crop is also beneficial in replacing the soil with nitrogen. These benefits drove farmer adoption of the crop.

As the crop has grown in adoption, farmers, universities and seed companies have worked to improve the soybean plant’s ability to grow and adapt to various climates and conditions. Soybeans are grown in U.P, M.P, Chattisgarh,Goa&Gujarat in India.

Soy is one of the few plants that provide a complete protein as it contains all eight amino acids essential for human health. Best season for harvesting of soya crop is from 3^rdweek of June to July. Soybeans can be sown on stored moisture and after rainfall but it is rare that this is possible.

About 85 percent of the world’s soybeans are processed, or "crushed," annually into soybean meal and oil.  Approximately 98 percent of the soybean meal that is crushed is further processed into animal feed with the balance used to make soy flour and proteins. Of the oil fraction, 95 percent is consumed as edible oil; the rest is used for industrial products such as fatty acids, soaps and biodiesel.

Soy nuts are anidenticalsolid food, with a lot of nutrients in even very small servings. Because of the high caloric and fat content that come with this nutrient density, you should be careful not to eat more than 1 or 2 ounces per day. However, eating small amounts of soy nuts as a snack or salad topping is a healthful and easy way to boost your daily intake of a variety of important nutrients.

Soybean is hailed as the most protective bean. Soy contains 40 percent protein. It has the highest protein content amongst plant products. “Soy protein” refers to the protein found in soybeans. As animal protein contains all the essential amino acids, lacking in pulse protein, soy is often used to replace the animal proteins in an individual's diet. Soybean is the only vegetable food that contains all eight essential amino acids. Soybeans are processed to various soya products namely soy flour, soy milk, cottage cheese like tofu, fermented products like tempeh and miso.

Most soybeans are processed for their oil and protein for the animal feed industry. A smaller percentage is processed for human consumption and made into products including soy milk, soy flour, soyprotein, tofu and many retail food products. Soybeans are also used in many non-food (industrial) products.

OTHER USES

Biodiesel — biodiesel fuel is used for diesel engines can be formed from soybean oil by aneasy n simple process called transesterification. This process removes the glycerine from the oil, leaving soy biodiesel.  Soy biodiesel is cleaner burning than petroleum-based diesel oil.  Its use reduces particulate emissions, and it is non-toxic, renewable and environmentally friendly. Soy is an ingredient in many industrial lubricants, solvents, cleaners and paints. Candles made with soybean oil burn longer but with less smoke and soot.

SoyInk is always better than petroleum-based inks because soy ink is not toxic, renewable and environmentally friendly, and it cleans up easily. It is made up of soy oil and safer for children.

Soy based foams are currently being developed for use in coolers, refrigerators, automotive interiors and even footwear. New uses in the automotive and equipment industry followed, including lubricants, body parts, interiors and seating.
