2. Feature
Quick and Easy
Operating in accordance with the instructions, users can complete the hardness test independently without specialized training. Five minutes is enough to complete the analysis of one water sample.
Accurate and Reliable
This method equals to the standard method that is EDTA-2Na Titration Method (GB5750-2006). The calcium ions and magnesium ions in water samples combine with EDTA-2Na successively to form chelate. On the end point of the titration, the solution presents the color of the indicator.
3. Operation
1. Use the transferpetter measure 10mL testing liquid to Erlenmeyer flask.
2. Add a pack of reagent I, sway the flask, if the liquid become red, the hardness of water is below 0.4mg/L, or please go to step 3.
3. Use another transferpetter measure 1mL reagent II.
4. Add reagent II while swaying the flask till liquid turn red from blue, repeat step 3 and 4 when 1mL is not enough, record the volume V.
5. The hardness of the testing liquid =V*200 (mg/L, calculated as CaCO3) for LH-2012
=V*600 (mg/L, calculated as CaCO3) for LH-2013
Notes:
1. Wash the Erlenmeyer flask with deioniazed water before testing.
2. The PH of testing liquid must be controlled between 6 and 9.
3. Avoid bubbles when measuring liquid with transferpetter.
4. Background
Sources of hardness:
Water hardness originally refers to the precipitation of calcium and magnesium salt to soap. Different countries have different definitions to the hardness such as total hardness, carbonate hardness and non-carbonate hardness. Total hardness refers to the total concentration of calcium and magnesium. Carbonate hardness, which is equal to the hardness of calcium and magnesium combined with carbonate and bicarbonate in the water, is a part of the total hardness. Non-carbonate hardness is also a part of the total hardness. When the content of the calcium ion and magnesium ion in the water exceeds the content of carbonate and bicarbonate, the redundant ions will combine with the chloride ions, sulfate radicals and nitrate radicals in the water, then the non-carbonate hardness forms.
