The Two Questions Every Cold Chain Buyer Asks

200kg Per Shelf — Rated, Tested, and Translated
The load spec on Hengna's cold chain shelving is 200 kg per level. But that number is meaningless until you map it to what actually goes on the shelf in a frozen storage environment.
Here is the real-world translation:
2 Euro pallets — Each 800 × 1200 mm, stacked 1.2 m high with frozen poultry or beef cartons. Full pallet width, no overhang.
40 cases of frozen product — At 5 kg per case (typical for frozen vegetables or seafood boxes), spread flat across one shelf.
6 full dairy crates — Stacked two high, three across. Standard gastronorm sizes fit without modification.
The shelf achieves this through two structural features:
Double embossed stiffener ribs pressed into the panel. These run the full length of the shelf and prevent the steel from bowing under load. Most flat-panel shelves in this price range use a single rib or none at all.
Triangular gusset bracing at each corner where the shelf meets the upright. This prevents the rack from racking sideways — a common failure mode when a fully loaded freezer shelf gets bumped by a pallet jack.
The uprights are C-channel profile, not thin-walled tube. Weld points are thickened at every joint. The whole assembly passes static load testing at 200 kg per level before it leaves the factory.
KD Pack — Why It Matters for Export
KD stands for knocked down. Every component of the shelving — uprights, shelves, clips, feet — is disassembled and flat-packed into cartons. This is not a corner-cutting measure. It is a deliberate packaging strategy that solves three problems at once.
Problem 1: Ocean freight is charged by volume. A fully assembled rack takes up roughly three times the cubic volume of the same rack broken down into flat components. With KD packing, you fit more units per container. A 40HQ container holds approximately 180–200 sets of Hengna's 4-tier shelving. That brings the per-unit freight cost down significantly.
Problem 2: Assembled racks get damaged in transit. A welded or pre-assembled rack is rigid. When the container hits a rough sea, that rigid structure transfers every shock directly to the welds. Over a 30-day ocean voyage from Qingdao to Rotterdam or Los Angeles, repeated vibration causes micro-fractures at the joints. KD components are flat. They absorb vibration through the packaging layers. They arrive intact.
Problem 3: Warehouse teams hate complicated assembly. This is where the butterfly snap-clip design comes in. Hengna's shelving uses no screws, no bolts, no threaded fasteners. 304 Stainless Steel — The Only Choice for Frozen Storage
None of the above matters if the shelving corrodes within 18 months. Cold chain warehouses cycle between sub-zero temperatures and ambient humidity every time a door opens. Condensation is constant.
304 stainless steel contains 18% chromium. This creates a passive oxide layer that moisture cannot penetrate. In a cycling freezer environment, carbon steel racks show rust at weld points within 8–12 weeks. 304 stainless steel racks in the same room show zero corrosion after years of service.
If you are building or retrofitting a cold chain warehouse, do not use painted or galvanized shelving in the frozen zones. The coating will fail at cut edges and bolt holes. 304 is the correct specification.
