BB60D 6GHz SDR Spectrum Analyzer Signal Hound Aerospace Shortwave RF Measurement Wide Dynamic Range

Product Introduction

The BB60D is a upgraded USB 3.0 portable real-time spectrum analyzer (RTSA) succeeding BB60C, covering 9 kHz to 6 GHz, fully manufactured in USA. It integrates a built-in sub-octave preselector filter bank, delivering 10 dB wider dynamic range, cleaner spurious performance and superior phase noise compared to BB60C. It runs solely on USB 3.0 bus power without external DC adapter, supporting gapless 27 MHz real-time I/Q streaming, ultra-fast 24 GHz/s sweep speed, and native RF/IQ disk recording function. It targets lab RF testing, outdoor field interference hunting, wireless signal monitoring and automated production test systemsSignal Hound.

Core Upgrade Points vs BB60C

  1. Integrated 130 MHz–6 GHz multi-stage preselector filter bank, suppresses image & harmonic interference

  2. +10 dB extended linear dynamic range; overload reference level lifted from -50 dBm to -30 dBm

  3. Optimized local oscillator for improved phase noise and lower residual spurs

  4. Independent 10 MHz reference input/output SMA port

  5. Extra 1-PPS trigger/sync digital I/O for multi-unit synchronous measurement

  6. More robust front-end attenuation & LNA matching for high-interference crowded spectrum environments

Hardware Architecture Brief

BB60D adopts superheterodyne low-IF receiver architecture with multi-stage preselector filters covering 130 MHz–6 GHz. Incoming RF signals first pass band-select preselector to filter out image frequency and harmonic spurious signals, then route through programmable attenuator and low-noise amplifier (LNA). Quadrature down-conversion mixer shifts RF to IF, followed by high-speed 80 MS/s ADC sampling. Onboard FPGA executes digital filtering, amplitude/phase calibration, decimation and real-time spectrum FFT processing, then streams calibrated I/Q raw data to PC via USB 3.0 without frame loss. Preselector band split points: 130, 210, 310, 450, 650, 950, 1350, 1950, 3010, 4210 MHz.

Safety & Calibration Notes

  1. RF Input Protection: Front-end circuitry vulnerable to ESD >1.5 kV HBM. External coaxial limiter required when connecting antennas or power amplifiers to avoid permanent hardware burnout.

  2. Input Power Limit: Never apply continuous RF power over +10 dBm to RF input port. Transient peak shall not exceed +20 dBm.

  3. Factory Calibration: Each BB60D is fully calibrated before shipment. Formal recalibration requires Signal Hound proprietary calibration hardware; contact official support for annual calibration service.

  4. USB Cable Requirement: Use certified USB 3.0 cable ≤ 2 meters long; low-speed USB 2.0 cable will limit real-time bandwidth and cause data loss.
