Steel Sheet Pile - Product Detailed Description
1. Product Overview
Steel sheet pile is a hot-rolled or cold-formed section steel with interlocking clutches on the edges. It can be interlocked continuously via the clutches to form sheet pile walls for soil and water retaining. It is widely applied in temporary and permanent projects such as foundation pit support, quay walls, river cofferdams and flood control dykes. It features high strength, excellent water tightness, reusability and fast construction speed.
2. Production Process & Classification
2.1 Classification by Production Process
Hot-rolled Steel Sheet Pile (Mainstream Type)Formed by high-temperature rolling with accurate dimensions, tightly sealed clutches and excellent mechanical properties. It is suitable for deep foundation pits and high-load working conditions. Common grades: Q355B, Q390, Q420. Executed standard: GB/T 20933-2021.
Cold-formed Steel Sheet PileRolled and shaped by cold forming units using steel plates with thickness of 8-14mm. It features flexible fixed length and low cost, while its clutch sealing performance is relatively weak and prone to tearing. It is mostly used for shallow foundation pits and temporary support. Common grades: Q235B, Q355B. Executed standard: GB/T 29654-2013.
2.2 Classification by Cross-section Shape
U-type (Larsen Pile, Most Commonly Used)Adopts U-shaped cross-section with large lateral stiffness, strong bending resistance and superior water tightness due to tight clutches. Main models: PU22, PU28, PU32, PU40, FSP-Ⅲ, FSP-Ⅳ. Applicable to deep foundation pits, docks and cofferdams.
Z-typeWith symmetrical flanges, strong torsion resistance and high bearing capacity of single pile. Main models: PZ28, PZ35, PZ40. Ideal for large-scale docks, deep-water cofferdams and permanent retaining walls.
Straight Web TypeFlat cross-section, easy to drive into soil and good water resistance, yet low lateral stiffness. Suitable for shallow foundation pits and sites with favorable soil conditions.
H-type & Combined TypeUsually combined with other components for large-scale support and special engineering projects.

3.2 Material Grade & Mechanical Properties
Common Grades: Q355B (S355GP), Q390, Q420. Q355NH and ASTM A690 corrosion-resistant steel are adopted for marine environments.
Mechanical Indexes: Yield strength ≥ 355MPa, Tensile strength: 470-630MPa, Elongation ≥ 20%.
3.3 Length & Delivery
Standard lengths: 6m, 9m, 12m, 15m. Custom lengths are available, maximum up to 24m.
Delivery basis: Delivered by theoretical weight (density: 7.85g/cm³) or actual weight.
4. Clutch & Connection
Clutch Types: Hook & Claw type for European and Japanese standards with two-way water resistance; Ball & Socket type for American standards with high-strength interlocking performance.
Connection Features: Closely interlocked clutches can bear horizontal force and deliver outstanding water tightness to effectively prevent leakage.
5. Surface Treatment & Anti-corrosion
Bare Steel: For short-term use in temporary projects with low cost.
Hot-dip Galvanizing: Zinc coating thickness ≥ 85μm, excellent corrosion resistance, service life of 15-20 years, applicable to permanent projects.
Anti-corrosion Paint: Including epoxy zinc-rich paint and asphalt paint. Moderate cost, service life of 5-10 years.
6. Product Performance Characteristics
High Strength: High section modulus with strong bending and lateral pressure resistance, suitable for deep foundation pits and high-load projects.
Excellent Water Tightness: Well-sealed clutches can effectively block underground water and reduce leakage risks of foundation pits.
Reusable: Robust material and easy extraction. It can be recycled for 5 to 10 times with proper maintenance, presenting high economic efficiency.
Efficient Construction: Can be driven and pulled out rapidly by pile drivers without large-scale equipment, shortening construction period and adapting to narrow working sites.
Environmental & Safe: No excess soil haulage, low noise and minimum impact on surrounding environment.
7. Application Scope
Municipal Engineering: Support for subway foundation pits, underground pipe galleries and sewage tanks.
Water Conservancy Engineering: River cofferdams, flood control dykes, revetments and quay walls.
Construction Engineering: Support for deep foundation pits and retaining walls of basements, as well as temporary bracing.
Other Fields: Bridge foundations, port docks and temporary water retaining for emergency rescue.
8. Packaging, Marking & Quality Certification
Packaging: Delivered in bundles of 2 to 5 tons. Each bundle is marked with model, specification and material grade at the ends.
Marking: Clearly marked with standard number, steel grade, model, length, weight and production batch number.
Quality Certification: Material certificates, mechanical performance reports and dimension inspection records are provided. Products comply with GB/T 20933-2021 and JG/T 196-2018 standards.
