OKLDF Series – Bidirectional Thrust Angular Contact Ball Bearings

1. Product Overview

The OKLDF series is a high‑precision bidirectional thrust angular contact ball bearing designed for demanding machine tool and rotary table applications. As an integral part of ONA’s precision bearing portfolio, the OKLDF series delivers high rotational accuracy, high rigidity, low friction torque and excellent speed capability – making it an ideal choice for applications where combined loads and precision are required.

2. Structural Design

The OKLDF series features a carefully engineered structure that combines the following key components:

  • Single‑piece outer ring

  • Two inner rings (split type)

  • Two sets of ball and cage assemblies

  • Contact angle of 60 degrees – twice the standard 30° contact angle of conventional angular contact ball bearings, enabling significantly higher axial load capacity and greater overturning moment rigidity

Both the outer and inner rings are fitted with mounting holes, allowing the bearing to be installed and secured directly onto adjacent machine structures using connecting bolts. The bearings are fixed by the bolts themselves, which simplifies assembly and ensures safe handling during transport, installation and maintenance.

3. Key Performance Characteristics

3.1 High Precision (P4 / P2)

The OKLDF series is manufactured to precision grades P4 and P2 – the highest classification in the ISO/ABMA tolerance system. This ensures minimal rotational runout and exceptional positioning accuracy, making the bearings suitable for high‑end CNC machine tools.

3.2 High Rigidity with Built‑in Preload

All OKLDF bearings are delivered with an integrated preload, which eliminates the need for manual gap adjustment during installation. This preloaded design guarantees high system rigidity under all operating conditions, minimizing deflection and enhancing machining stability.

3.3 60° Contact Angle for Combined Loads

With a 60° contact angle in both directions, the double‑row ball design enables the bearing to simultaneously withstand:

  • Radial loads

  • Bidirectional axial loads

  • Overturning moments

This combined load capability makes the OKLDF series an exceptionally compact solution for rotary axes where multiple load directions occur simultaneously.

3.4 Low Friction, High Speed and Low Temperature Rise

The specially designed brass cage provides higher mechanical strength while maintaining very low starting torque. The 60° contact angle configuration also contributes to:

  • High limiting rotational speeds – significantly higher than standard thrust ball bearings

  • Uniformly low friction torque across the entire speed range

  • Low temperature generation – essential for high‑speed, long‑duration machining

3.5 Sealed Design for Contamination Protection

The OKLDF series is fitted with seals on both sides of the bearing. These seals serve two critical functions:

  • Prevent ingress of external contaminants such as dust, coolant mist and metal chips

  • Retain internal grease – preventing lubricant leakage and ensuring consistent lubrication throughout the bearing’s service life

3.6 Optimized Lubrication with Relubrication Capability

The bearings are initially lubricated with a composite barium‑based grease, selected for its high mechanical stability, wide operating temperature range and excellent adhesion to rolling elements. The outer ring features oil holes that allow for grease replenishment without disassembly, extending the bearing’s service life in long‑running or severe‑duty applications.

3.7 Adjustable Preload via Spacer Ring

The split inner ring design includes a spacer ring between the two inner rings. By precisely grinding the spacer ring to the required thickness, the preload level can be adjusted according to the application’s rigidity and speed requirements. This adjustability enables the bearing to be fine‑tuned for the optimum balance between stiffness and temperature rise – a critical requirement in high‑speed precision spindles.

4. Detailed Technical Specifications

The OKLDF series is available in a comprehensive range of standard sizes covering inner diameters from 100 mm to 580 mm, with custom sizes available upon request. The table below summarizes the key dimensions and performance parameters for the standard models:

Selection guide:

  • OKLDF – Choose for applications requiring high speed + low friction + high precision + moderate combined loads

  • YRT – Choose for applications requiring maximum rigidity + heavy combined loads, where speed is not the primary concern

  • ORTS – Choose for direct‑drive motor applications where very low friction torque at high speed is critical

6. Application Fields

The OKLDF series is widely used across a broad spectrum of high‑precision industries, including:

Application Field Specific Use Cases Why OKLDF is Suitable
