Commonly known as angle iron, angle steel is a long hot-rolled / cold-formed steel profile with an L-shaped vertical cross-section on both sides. It is widely used in construction, machinery, electric power, municipal engineering and other fields, featuring stable structure, convenient processing and high cost performance.
1. Product Classification
1.1 Classification by Cross-Section Shape (Core Classification)
Equal Angle Steel: With equal width on both sides, marked as side width × side width × side thickness (e.g., ∠50×50×5mm); the model is represented by the centimeter value of side width (e.g., 5#). It features uniform and symmetrical stress and is the most widely used type.
Unequal Angle Steel: With unequal width on the two sides, marked as long side width × short side width × side thickness (e.g., ∠63×40×5mm). It is suitable for special stress scenarios and can save material consumption.
1.2 Classification by Production Process
Hot-Rolled Angle Steel (Mainstream): Comply with GB/T 706-2016 standard. Formed by high-temperature rolling, it has high strength and good toughness, applicable for load-bearing structures.
Cold-Formed Angle Steel: Comply with GB/T 6723-2017 standard. Formed by cold bending at normal temperature, it features uniform wall thickness and high surface precision, suitable for light-duty structures.
1.3 Classification by Surface Treatment
Black Angle Steel (Raw Surface): Original hot-rolled surface with low cost, applied for indoor dry environments.
Galvanized Angle Steel: Including hot-dip galvanized and cold galvanized types, with excellent rust and corrosion resistance, suitable for outdoor, humid and chemical industrial environments.
2. Specifications & Models (GB/T 706-2016)
2.1 Common Equal Angle Steel
Side width: 20–200mm; Side thickness: 3–20mm; Length: 4–12m (custom lengths available).
Example: ∠50×50×5mm (5#), theoretical weight: 3.73kg/m.
2.2 Common Unequal Angle Steel
Side width: 32/20–200/125mm; Side thickness: 3–18mm; Length: 4–12m.
Example: ∠63×40×5mm, theoretical weight: 4.47kg/m.
2.3 Theoretical Weight (kg/m)
Formula: W=0.00785×Side Thickness×(2×Side Width−Side Thickness) (for equal angle steel).

3. Material & Chemical Composition
3.1 Common National Standard Materials
Q235B (Most Versatile): Carbon structural steel with yield strength ≥235MPa, featuring good plasticity and weldability and low price.
Q355B (High Strength): Low-alloy structural steel with yield strength ≥355MPa, used for heavy-load and large-span structures.
Q235A/C/D: Q235A (no impact test requirement), Q235B (normal temperature impact test), Q235C/D (low-temperature impact test), applicable to different ambient temperature conditions.
3.2 Chemical Composition (Q235B, ≤%)
C: ≤0.22; Mn: 0.30–0.65; P: ≤0.045; S: ≤0.045.
4. Mechanical Properties (Typical Values of Q235B)
Yield Strength (σs): ≥235MPa
Tensile Strength (σb): 370–500MPa
Elongation (δ5): ≥26%
Cold Bending Test: No cracks after 180° bending.
5. Executive Standards
Hot-rolled angle steel: GB/T 706-2016 (Dimensions, Shape, Weight and Allowable Deviations).
Acceptance and Packaging: GB/T 2101-2008.
International Standards: ISO 657-1, ASTM A36, EN 10056-1.
6. Main Applications
6.1 Building Structures: Factory frames, beam structures, stair handrails, curtain wall supports, tower crane standard sections.
6.2 Electric Power & Communication: Transmission towers, base station supports, cable trench supports, bus bridge frames.

6.5 Storage Shelves: Heavy-duty shelf columns, cross beams, support legs.
7. Processing & Installation
Cutting: Flame cutting, plasma cutting, saw cutting, suitable for different plate thicknesses.
Welding: Manual arc welding, CO₂ gas shielded welding; E43 series welding rods are matched for Q235B steel.
Drilling: Electric drill, magnetic drill, fixed by bolt installation.
Bending: Cold bending machine forming for special angle requirements.
8. Selection Guidelines
8.1 Environmental Adaptation: Choose Q235B black angle steel for indoor dry environments; choose hot-dip galvanized angle steel for outdoor humid environments.
8.2 Strength Matching: Select Q355B for heavy-load and large-span structures; select Q235B for conventional loads to reduce costs.
8.3 Specification Selection: Prioritize equal angle steel for uniform stress; adopt unequal angle steel for uneven stress conditions; determine side thickness according to load-bearing calculation.
9. Packaging & Delivery
Packaging: Bundled packaging (50–100 pieces per bundle), labeled at both ends with specifications, material, batch number and weight marked clearly.
Delivery Status: Hot-rolled / normalized / galvanized, custom lengths (6m/9m/12m or customized sizes) are available.
