How does a globe valve differ from a gate valve in pipeline applications?
While both are isolation valves, globe valves are specifically engineered for flow regulation and throttling, featuring a higher pressure drop due to the S-shaped fluid path. Gate valves are designed for fully open or fully closed isolation with minimal pressure drop and should not be used for throttling to avoid seat erosion.
Why is the OS&Y (Outside Screw & Yoke) design critical for chemical pipelines?
The OS&Y design isolates the stem threads from the process medium. In corrosive chemical or high-temperature environments, this prevents fluid from degrading stem lubrication or corroding the threads, significantly increasing operational lifespan and ensuring plant safety.
