A Z30-AZ40 Coated Mid-Hard Steel Coil 0.21-0.50mm Galvalume Coil
Product Spotlights
Aluminized zinc coil resists corrosion better than standard galvanized material.
Galvalume steel coils offers cut-edge self-healing, prolonging service life.
Galvalume steel coil (commonly abbreviated as GL or AZ) is a highly corrosion-resistant product made by applying an aluminum-zinc alloy coating to a steel substrate. The typical coating composition is 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% silicon. A key quality parameter is the zinc layer thickness (or coating weight, e.g., AZ50, AZ70, AZ100, AZ150), which directly determines the coil’s corrosion protection and service life. Heavier zinc layer thickness (e.g., AZ150) offers superior cut-edge protection and sacrificial anode properties. GL coils are known for excellent heat reflectivity, oxidation resistance, and formability, making them a cost-effective alternative to galvanized steel (GI) in many environments.
Applications
GL coils are widely used in building and construction: roofing sheets, wall cladding, gutters, and structural purlins. In home appliances, they appear as oven liners, air conditioner housings, and microwave back panels. The automotive industry uses GL for exhaust system parts, fuel tanks, and underbody components. Other applications include fencing, agricultural silos, solar panel mounting systems, and electrical cabinets.
Zinc layer thickness – often called coating weight, g/m², or TCT (total coating thickness).
GL – Galvalume (55% Al-Zn coating).
GI – Galvanized steel (pure zinc coating).
AZ – Aluminum-zinc coating designation (e.g., AZ70 = 70 g/m² total coating both sides).
SPANG – Japanese standard for GL (e.g., SPANG-1, SPANG-2).
SGLCC – Structural Galvalume coil.
ASTM A792 – US standard for 55% Al-Zn alloy-coated steel.
Cut-edge creepage – corrosion from exposed steel edge.
Spangle – visible crystal pattern on coated surface.
By precisely specifying zinc layer thickness (coating weight) and using standard abbreviations like GL, AZ, and SGLCC, customers can ensure optimal performance for roofing, cladding, and stamped components.
