Container Plate Product Detailed Description
1. General Introduction
Container plate (Pressure Vessel Steel Plate) is a special medium and heavy steel plate specially used for manufacturing pressure-tight enclosed equipment. It features high temperature resistance, low temperature resistance, high pressure resistance, excellent weldability, extremely low impurities and strict flaw detection standard. As a special steel for special equipment, it is widely applied in petroleum, chemical industry, power station, boiler, nuclear power, pharmaceutical and other fields.
2. Executive Standards
National Standard: GB/T 713-2023 (Boiler and Pressure Vessel Steel Plate, mainstream standard); GB/T 3531-2019 (Low-temperature Pressure Vessel Steel Plate)
American Standard: ASME SA516 (Gr60/65/70), SA387 (Cr-Mo Heat Resistant Steel)
European Standard: P265GH, P355GH, etc.
3. Main Grades & Classification (By Application & Temperature)
Normal & Medium-Low Pressure Container Plate (Most Commonly Used)
Q245R: Carbon steel, yield strength ≥245MPa, applicable temperature ≤425℃. Used for water tanks, air storage tanks, atmospheric/low-pressure storage tanks, heat exchangers, etc.
Q345R: Low-alloy high-strength steel, yield strength ≥345MPa, applicable temperature -20℃~475℃. Applied to medium and high pressure vessels, reaction kettles, spherical tanks, boiler drums, largest consumption and high cost performance.
Q370R/Q420R/Q460R: High-strength steel with yield strength 370–460MPa. Used for large-scale high-pressure vessels and thick-wall equipment to reduce self-weight.
Low-temperature Container Plate (-40℃~-196℃)
16MnDR: Low-temperature impact resistance at -40℃, for liquid ammonia, propylene storage tanks and low-temperature separators.
09MnNiDR: -70℃ grade with excellent low-temperature toughness, suitable for LNG and ethylene storage tanks.
9Ni Steel: -196℃ ultra-low temperature special steel, applied to LNG storage tanks and liquid oxygen containers.
High Temperature & Heat Resistant Container Plate (350℃~600℃)
15CrMoR/14Cr1MoR: Cr-Mo steel, applicable at 350–550℃, for high temperature and high pressure reactors, hydrogenation units and steam pipelines.
12Cr2Mo1R: 2.25Cr-1Mo grade, service temperature ≤600℃, used for hydrogen environment and high temperature & high pressure vessels.
High-strength Quenched & Tempered Container Plate
Q690DR: Quenched and tempered state, yield strength ≥690MPa, used for heavy-duty high-pressure equipment and offshore platform pressure vessels.
4. Chemical Composition Characteristics (Strict Control of Harmful Elements)
Carbon (C): 0.12–0.20%, balancing strength and weldability
Manganese (Mn): 1.20–1.60% (Q345R), improving strength and toughness
Sulfur (S) ≤0.015%, Phosphorus (P) ≤0.020%: Ultra-low impurities to avoid hot cracking and cold cracking, improve low-temperature toughness
Alloy Elements: Cr, Mo, Ni (for low-temperature & heat-resistant steel) to enhance corrosion resistance, heat resistance and low-temperature toughness
5. Mechanical Properties (Core Indicators, Taking Q345R as Example)
Yield Strength (ReH): ≥345MPa (thickness ≤16mm), slightly decreases with the increase of plate thickness
Tensile Strength (Rm): 490–620MPa
Elongation (A): ≥21%, ensuring plasticity and formability
Low-temperature Impact Energy (KV2): ≥34J at -20℃, preventing low-temperature brittle fracture
Hardness: ≤200HB, convenient for processing and welding

Delivery Condition (Heat Treatment)
Hot Rolled / Controlled Rolling: Commonly used for Q245R/Q345R, low cost, suitable for medium and low pressure working conditions
Normalizing: Grain refinement and toughness improvement, mandatory for low-temperature container plate 16MnDR
Normalizing & Tempering: For high-temperature & heat-resistant steel such as 15CrMoR, stabilizing structure and relieving internal stress
Quenching & Tempering: Applied to high-strength steel Q690DR, optimal matching of strength and toughness
7. Quality Control & Flaw Detection Requirements
Surface Quality: Free of cracks, folding, scarring and heavy oxide scale, no burrs on edges
UT Ultrasonic Flaw Detection: Grade Ⅱ and above (GB/T 6402); Grade Ⅰ required for key equipment, eliminating internal lamination, air holes and cracks
Piece-by-piece Inspection: Full inspection of mechanical properties, chemical composition and flaw detection, supplied with official Mill Test Certificate

9. Key Differences from Ordinary Steel Plates
Purer chemical composition with far lower S and P content, better toughness and crack resistance
More stable performance, passing strict low-temperature impact, high-temperature endurance and flaw detection tests to avoid failure under long-term high pressure
Better weldability with low carbon equivalent, low cracking sensitivity, suitable for thick plate welding and on-site assembly
Higher safety level, regulated as special equipment with traceable whole process, effectively avoiding explosion and leakage risks
10. Model Selection Suggestion (By Working Condition)
Normal temperature ≤300℃, medium & low pressure: Preferred Q345R, choose Q245R for low pressure
Low temperature -40℃~-70℃: Select 16MnDR / 09MnNiDR
High temperature 350–550℃: Select 15CrMoR
Ultra-low temperature -196℃: Select 9Ni Steel
11. Packaging & Delivery
Packaging: Anti-rust film + moisture-proof paper + steel strip bundling; product labels marked with heat number, batch number, specification and grade attached at plate end
