H Steel Product Detailed Description

1. Basic Definition & Structural Characteristics

H Steel (H-beam) is an economical high-efficiency section steel with an H-shaped cross-section. With optimized section distribution and reasonable strength-to-weight ratio, it is widely used in steel structure buildings and heavy engineering, also known as wide-flange I-beam.

  • Definition: It has an H-shaped cross-section, composed of web (middle vertical part, resists shear force) and flange (upper and lower horizontal parts, resists bending moment). The inner and outer sides of the flange are parallel with right-angle ends, featuring far better mechanical properties than ordinary I-beams of the same weight.

  • Structural Features: Thin web and wide flange; high section modulus and moment of inertia; excellent bending resistance, torsion resistance and overall stability with good lateral stiffness and low risk of instability.

2. Product Classification (Standard: GB/T 11263-2017)

2.1 Classified by Flange Width (Main Hot-Rolled Type)

  • HW (Wide Flange H Steel): Height ≈ Width, nearly square section; high weak-axis stiffness and compression stability, mainly used for axially compressed columns and heavy frame columns (e.g., HW100×100).

  • HM (Medium Flange H Steel): Height/Width ratio 1.33~1.75, rectangular section; balanced performance of strong and weak axis with both bending and compression resistance, applied to frame columns and equipment platform beams (e.g., HM300×200).

  • HN (Narrow Flange H Steel): Height/Width ratio ≥2, slender section; outstanding strong-axis moment of inertia and bending resistance, suitable for bending beams and light-duty frames (e.g., HN400×200).

  • HT (Thin-walled H Steel): Thin web and flange, lightweight design; used for light workshops, supports and non-load-bearing components.

2.2 Classified by Production Process

  • Hot-rolled H Steel: Integrally formed by heating and rolling steel billets; uniform performance, high precision and no welding defects, the first choice for conventional heavy-duty structures such as workshop columns and floor beams.

  • Welded H Steel: Assembled by submerged arc welding after steel plate cutting; customizable super-large and special sections, applied to long-span bridges, super high-rise columns and special load-bearing components.
