Pre-painted Steel Coil Product Detailed Description
Pre-painted steel coil (also known as color steel coil, PPGI / PPGL) is a composite material made by chemical pretreatment, roller coating with organic paint, and high-temperature baking curing on the surface of hot-dip galvanized / galvalume / electro-galvanized steel substrate. It combines the structural strength of steel with anti-corrosion, weather resistance and decorative properties of paint. It can be directly processed and is a core material for construction, home appliances, new energy and other industries.
1. Core Structure (Five-layer Protection)
A standard pre-painted steel coil consists of five layers for comprehensive protection and longer service life:
Substrate: Provides mechanical strength and basic anti-corrosion performance; mainstream types are Hot-Dip Galvanized (GI) and Galvalume (GL, 55%Al+43.4%Zn+1.6%Si), with a small quantity of Electro-Galvanized (EG).
Chemical Conversion Layer: Passivation and chromate treatment to improve coating adhesion and enhance rust resistance.
Primer Layer: Epoxy / polyester primer for enhanced anti-corrosion and stable interlayer bonding.
Topcoat Layer: Determines color, gloss and weather resistance; common types include PE / SMP / HDP / PVDF.
Back Coat Layer: Protects the back side from corrosion and extends overall service life.

3. Main Coating Systems (Core of Weather Resistance & Cost)
3.1 Polyester (PE)
Service Life: 5–10 years
Features: Lowest cost, rich color options, excellent workability
Application: Ordinary factory buildings, warehouses, indoor home appliances, civil buildings
3.2 Silicon Modified Polyester (SMP)
Service Life: 10–15 years
Features: High hardness, anti-pollution, better weather resistance than PE
Application: Urban factory buildings, commercial buildings, outdoor enclosure panels
3.3 High Durability Polyester (HDP)
Service Life: 15–20 years
Features: Strong UV resistance, salt spray resistance, weather resistance close to PVDF
Application: High altitude & strong UV areas, high-end industrial buildings
3.4 Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF)
Service Life: More than 20 years
Features: 70% PVDF + 30% acrylic, acid & alkali resistance, superior corrosion and weather resistance
Application: Coastal landmark buildings, high-pollution industrial zones, high-end curtain walls, cross-sea structural components

Topcoat: PE/SMP 20–25μm; HDP/PVDF ≥25μm
Back Coat: 5–10μm

7. Quality Inspection Key Points
Surface Condition: No missing coating, scratches, bubbles or color difference; uniform gloss.
Coating Adhesion: No cracking or peeling after 180° bending test.
Coating & Zinc Layer Thickness: Compliant with contract standards (e.g. zinc coating 120g/m², topcoat 25μm).
Salt Spray Resistance: PVDF ≥5000h, HDP ≥3000h, SMP ≥2000h, PE ≥1000h without rust spots.
