Effect of RDP/Redispersible Polymer Powder(redispersible emulsion powder) on the durability of cement-based materials
The formation of polymer continuous film is very important for the performance of polymer modified cement mortar. In the process of setting and hardening, many cavities will be produced inside the cement slurry, which becomes the weak part of the cement slurry. After the redispersible emulsion powder is added, the emulsion powder is immediately dispersed into emulsion when it meets water and gathers in the water-rich area (i.e. in the cavity). As the cement slurry sets and hardens, the movement of polymer particles becomes more and more restricted, and the interfacial tension between water and air causes them to gradually align. When the polymer particles begin to touch each other, the network of water evaporates through the capillary, and the polymer forms a continuous film around the cavity, strengthening these weak spots. At this time, the polymer film can not only play a hydrophobic role, but also will not block the capillary tube, so that the material has a good hydrophobic and breathable property.
The cement mortar without the addition of polymer is very loosely linked together, on the contrary, the polymer modified cement mortar because of the existence of polymer film makes the whole mortar is very closely linked, thus obtaining better mechanical properties and weather resistance. In the modified cement mortar, the emulsion powder will increase the porosity of the cement slurry, but reduce the porosity of the interface transition zone between the cement slurry and the aggregate, resulting in the overall porosity of the mortar is basically unchanged. After latex powder film formation, it can better plug the pores in the mortar, make the structure of the transition zone between the cement slurry and the aggregate more dense, improve the permeability resistance of latex powder modified mortar, enhance the ability to resist the erosion of harmful media, and play a positive role in improving the durability of mortar.
The high flexibility and high elasticity polymer mesh film can be formed by mixing RDP/Redispersible Polymer Powder(redispersible emulsion powder) into cement mortar, which can significantly improve the performance of mortar, especially the tensile strength of mortar. When the external force is applied, due to the improvement of the overall cohesion of the mortar and the flexible and elastic effect of the polymer, the occurrence of micro-cracks will be offset or slowed down. Through the influence of the content of rubber powder on the strength of thermal insulation mortar, it is found that the tensile bond strength of thermal insulation mortar increases with the increase of the content of latex powder. The flexural strength and compressive strength decreased to a certain extent with the increase of the emulsion powder content, but they can still meet the requirements of the wall exterior surface.
The 28d bond strength of cement mortar mixed with RDP/Redispersible Polymer Powder(redispersible emulsion powder) increases with the increase of emulsion powder content. With the increase of emulsion powder content, the adhesion ability of cement mortar to the surface of old cement concrete is improved, which ensures its unique advantages for repairing cement concrete pavement and other structures. The bending ratio of mortar increases with the increase of emulsion powder content, and the flexibility of surface mortar is improved. It is also found that the elastic modulus of mortar decreases first and then increases with the increase of emulsion powder content. In general, with the increase of cementing ratio, the elastic modulus and deformation modulus of mortar are lower than that of ordinary mortar.
The influence of the content of RDP/Redispersible Polymer Powder(redispersible emulsion powder) on the bending strength of geopolymer mortar is very obvious. The bending strength of fly-metakaolin geopolymer mortar can be increased by 1.8, 1.9 and 2.9 times when the content of emulsion powder is 3%, 6% and 10%, respectively. The deformation resistance of fly-as-metakaolin geopolymer mortar increases with the increase of emulsion powder content. The flexural toughness of fly-metakaolin geopolymer increased by 0.6, 1.5 and 2.2 times when the content of emulsion powder was 3%, 6% and 10%, respectively.
VAE RDP/Redispersible Polymer Powder(redispersible emulsion powder) significantly improves the flexural and bond tensile strength of cement mortar, thereby improving the flexibility of cement mortar and enhancing the bond tensile strength of cement mortar-concrete and cement mortar-EPS board system.
When the cement-cement ratio is 0.3-0.4, the fracture elongation of polymer-modified cement mortar jumps from less than 0.5% to nearly 20%, which makes the material change from rigid to flexible, and further increase the polymer content can obtain more excellent flexibility.
Increasing the content of emulsion powder in mortar can improve the flexibility. When the polymer content is about 15%, the flexibility of mortar changes significantly. When the polymer content is higher than this, the flexibility of mortar increases significantly with the increase of RDP/Redispersible Polymer Powder(redispersible emulsion powder) content.
It is found that with the increase of RDP/Redispersible Polymer Powder(Redispersible Polymer Emulsion Powder) content (from 10% to 16%), the flexibility of mortar gradually increases, the dynamic bridge cracking ability (7d) increases from 0.19mm to 0.67mm, and the transverse deformation (28d) increases from 2.5mm to 6.3mm. At the same time, it is found that the increase of emulsion powder content can slightly increase the anti-seepage pressure of the back water surface of the mortar, and reduce the water absorption rate of the mortar. With the increase of emulsion powder content, the long-term water resistance of mortar decreases gradually. When the content of emulsion powder is adjusted to 10%-16%, the modified cement-based slurry can obtain good flexibility and excellent long-term water resistance.
