Xiangye (Suizhu) was cultivated in Mie Prefecture, Japan, and a new variety was registered in 2010. It is an extremely early maturing high-yield variety and is known as the "king of the strawberry world". This variety has won numerous gold awards at the National Strawberry Culture Festival in recent years, and its market popularity continues to rise.
Xiangye plants are upright, with strong growth potential, large leaves, well-developed roots, and extremely strong water and fertilizer absorption abilities. Shallow dormancy, outstanding ability for continuous flowering, and excellent yield performance. The fruit is of medium size, juicy and sweet, with a compact taste and high sugar content. In the Baotou area of Inner Mongolia, the fruit ripening period can last from the end of November to late June of the following year, achieving an ultra long harvesting period. When the fruit is ripe, it is mostly light red, and under sufficient light, it can turn into a bright red color, combining beauty and flavor.
Compared to Hongyan, Xiangye has significantly improved disease resistance and has good resistance to common diseases such as gray mold and powdery mildew. This characteristic makes it more worry free in management, especially suitable for novice growers or cultivation in areas with high disease pressure. In addition, Xiangye has a high and stable yield, with an annual cumulative yield of 500-800 grams per plant, and considerable economic benefits. Currently, this variety has become the most popular updated variety among berry farmers after Hongyan.
