The Swan armchair (The Swan) was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel project in Copenhagen. Like its counterpart, the "Egg Chair", the Swan armchair comes without straight lines. Since the Swan consists only of curves, this armchair was an extremely innovative furniture design in its time.
Jacobsen had a strong connection to and was inspired by nature. The idea for the Swan Chair came to Jacobsen while admiring a white swan. The design of the Swan Chair is strongly reminiscent of this proud animal and its elegant appearance, which is clearly reflected in this extraordinary chair model. The extravagance of the Swan Chair is reflected in its shape and Jacobsen's basic idea of creating organic design.
Jacobsen's idea: he wanted to encourage and stimulate communication between people. The Danish-born designer therefore thought that even a swan would not swim alone. The Swan Chair is therefore often seen in talk shows, movies and also in television programs.
