Zinc-coated steel wire strand is a metal product made of multiple galvanized steel wires twisted together. It features high strength, corrosion resistance, and stability, and conforms to standards such as YB/T 5004, ASTM A475, and BS183 etc. It is widely used in power, telecommunications, and other fields.

Tianjin Galfa Metal Products Co., Ltd. (Tianjin Galfa) mainly produces galvanized steel wire strand( zinc-coated steel wire strand), galvanized steel wire, zinc-5% aluminum-mischmetal mixed alloy coated steel wire and strand (galfan,aluzinc,Zn-5%Al-MM), and zinc-10% aluminum-mischmetal mixed alloy coated steel wire and strand (galfan,aluzinc). Characteristics of Zinc-coated steel wire strand : 1. High strength: The minimum tensile strength is typically between 1270-1670 MPa, and some galvanized steel wire strands can reach 2000 MPa, capable of withstanding enormous tensile forces.  

2. Corrosion Resistance: The Zinc coating effectively prevents the steel wire from rusting. Zinc coating thickness is available in three grades (A/B/C) to meet different corrosion protection requirements. The zinc coating amount ranges from 100-800 g/m². The thicker the zinc coating, the stronger the corrosion resistance and the longer the service life.

3. Stability: YB/T 5004 specifies that galvanized stranded wire has a tight structure, uniform twisting, and outer layer twist is right-handed, with a twist pitch not exceeding 14 times diameter, ensuring it does not easily loosen during use. In ASTM A 475, Zinc-coated steel wire strand has a left-handed outer layer twist, with a twist pitch not exceeding 16 times the diameter (for a 1x3 structure, the twist pitch does not exceed 14 times the diameter), also ensuring it does not easily loosen during use.

4. Flexibility: The tightly packed and independent steel wires give Zinc-coated steel wire strand flexibility, facilitating construction and installation.

Zinc-coated steel wire strand Structure and Specifications: 1. Common Structures: Including 1×3, 1×7, 1×19, 1×37, 3x7, etc., where the numbers indicate number and arrangement of steel wires. For example: 1×7 structure: composed of one central steel wire and six outer steel wires twisted together, commonly used for overhead guy wires on postal and telecommunications poles, with specifications such as 1/4 in, 5/16 in,5/8 in. 1×19 structure: suitable for applications requiring high flexibility. 1×37 structure: used in projects requiring higher strength and corrosion resistance, such as mine hoisting systems. 2. Specifications: Diameter range: Single wire diameter is typically 0.041 in, and finished steel strand diameter can reach 3.18 in-31.75 in.  Cross-sectional area and weight: Taking a 1×7 structure as an example, approximate weight of 1/4 in nominal diameter steel strand is 180kg/km; taking a 1×7 structure as an example, the  approximate weight of 5/8 in nominal diameter galvanized steel wire strand is 1211kg/km.

Zinc-coated steel wire strand selection and usage precautions: 1. Selection based on application: Overhead power grounding wire: Prioritize high-strength, corrosion-resistant 1×7 or 1×19 structure steel strand; Agricultural supports: Smaller specifications and lower cost steel strands can be selected, such as 3/16 of 7 wires . 2. Check appearance quality: - The zinc coating should be uniform and smooth, without cracks, exposed plating, or zinc nodules. The steel wires should be tightly arranged, without looseness, bending, or breakage. 3. Construction and installation: After cutting steel wire strand, anti-corrosion measures should be taken immediately, such as applying anti-rust paint or wrapping with a protective sleeve. Avoid excessive bending or twisting during installation to prevent damage to steel wires or zinc coating.  4. Maintenance and Inspection: Regularly inspect integrity of zinc coating and condition of steel wire strands, and replace any damaged parts promptly. In highly corrosive environments, consider using mischmetal mixed alloy coated steel wire strands (such as Zn-5%Al-RE) to extend their service life.

If the specifications and length are known, the weight can be calculated using theoretical weight: [Spool weight (kg) = Weight per meter (kg/m) × Length per spool (m)]

Diameter and structure: 

3/8 of 7 wires steel strand (0.407kg/m) *1524 meters ≈ 620kg/spool (5000 ft); 

9/16 of 19 wires steel strand (0.949kg/m)* 762 meters ≈ 723kg/spool (2500ft).

Packaging standards: National standard (ASTM) is usually 2500~5000 ft/spool; export packaging may be smaller (e.g., 250 ft/roll, 5 rolls/pallet). Some projects require specific lengths (e.g., 500m/spool).
