2. Introduction

Copper foam and nickel foam use foam sponge as the base material. High-purity copper and nickel are electroplated on the foam by means of liquid electroplating, enabling the foam to have characteristics such as conductivity, air electrostatic filtration, heat conduction and heat dissipation. The porous foam structure provides a great area advantage for filtration, heat dissipation, etc. The pore size can be adjusted according to the needs of the product to achieve different characteristic effects.

(1) Copper foam has good thermal conductivity, and the heat can be applied to electronics/electrical appliances and electronic components.

(2) Due to its excellent conductivity, copper foam is also the focus of the industry in electrode materials and their applications in nickel-zinc batteries and double-layer capacitors.

(3) Since the structure and performance of copper foam are harmless to humans, the basic characteristic of copper foam is a medical and water purification filter material.

4. Uses and applications

Air filtration of various electronic instruments and equipment, heat conduction and dissipation of heat-generating components such as LEDs, etc. Heat-dissipating materials, heat-absorbing materials, chemical catalyst carriers, electromagnetic shielding materials, filtering materials, damping materials, battery electrode materials, sound-absorbing materials, decorative materials.

(1) Electrode material. The excellent conductivity of copper foam enables it to be used as the electrode skeleton material for batteries such as nickel-zinc batteries and double-layer capacitors. At present, copper foam has been tried out by many nickel-zinc battery manufacturers and put into mass production. At the same time, copper foam is expected to be widely used as the electrode current collector of double-layer capacitors. In addition, copper foam also has a very broad prospect when used as the electrode material for electrolytic recovery of copper-containing wastewater.

(2) Catalyst. In many organic chemical reactions, people try to directly use copper foam with a large specific surface area to replace perforated copper plates as chemical reaction catalysts. Copper foam has also been successfully used as a photocatalytic air purification carrier.
(3) Heat-conducting material. The excellent thermal conductivity of copper foam makes it a high-performance flame-retardant material, which has been applied to many fire-fighting equipment abroad, especially as a flame isolation device. In addition, people use the excellent thermal conductivity and apparent permeability of copper foam to make heat-dissipating materials for motors and electrical appliances.
(4) Sound-absorbing and shielding material. Sound waves are diffusely reflected on the surface of copper foam, and the sound-absorbing effect is achieved through principles such as expansion sound absorption and microporous sound absorption. The shielding performance of copper is close to that of silver, making it a high-performance electromagnetic shielding material.
(5) Filtering material. The copper foam product with excellent structural characteristics and being basically harmless to the human body has also been successfully used as a medical filtering material. At the same time, copper foam also has a good prospect in water purification devices.
(6) Fluid pressure buffer material. The dispersion and buffering effect of copper foam on fluids make it have an excellent effect as a pressure reduction protection device for various pressure gauges.
