DuPont Nomex710
Electrical Insulating Paper for High-Power Automotive Applications
DuPont Nomex 710 is an electrical insulating paper with high temperature resistance, high mechanical strength, and chemical durability. It is thinner, has a better slot fill factor, and has smaller thickness tolerances. It is specifically designed to meet the strict requirements of emerging high-power automotive applications, such as slot insulation for traction motors in electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles.
Compared with the recognized benchmark Nomex*410 paper, its performance is enhanced per unit thickness, providing sufficient mechanical strength in high-productivity manufacturing processes and having electrical properties to optimize electronic machines for higher power
density.
It was initially introduced to the market with a thickness of 0.22mm (8.5mil). It addresses the urgent need for thickness-optimized insulating paper
and is suitable for PD-free insulation systems in 300 to 500V DC battery systems. In these systems, the peak voltage of the inverter (power electronics) usually does not exceed 800V.
Designers who choose optimized paper will benefit from the possibility of using more copper cross-section in the slots. Depending on the slot size and copper winding design, this can represent 2% to 5% of the same motor output power.
Compared with existing designs, the combined effect of higher thermal conductivity and lower thickness may reduce the thermal resistance by up to 30% in the critical path of heat loss (i.e., from copper to iron) and help reduce the peak winding temperature. As for the continuous operating temperature, Nomex710 paper is suitable for up to 220°C.
Introduction to Nomex710
DuPont Nomex insulating paper, especially the Nomex710 model, plays a crucial role in the inter-slot insulation of new energy vehicle oil-cooled motors. The following is a detailed analysis of its role:
I. Basic Characteristics of Nomex710 Insulating Paper
Inherent dielectric strength: The calendered Nomex insulating paper products can withstand a short-term voltage field strength of 18 - 40KV/mm without further treatment with varnish or resin. At the same time, due to the low dielectric constant of Nomex products, the electric field distribution between the insulation and the cooling medium is more uniform, which helps to reduce electromagnetic interference and energy loss during motor operation.
Mechanical toughness: After calendering, Nomex insulation paper has very high strength, and good elasticity, tear resistance and abrasion resistance. This mechanical toughness enables Nomex 710 insulation paper to withstand large mechanical stresses and vibrations in the inter - slot insulation of oil - cooled motors, thus ensuring the long - term stable operation of the motors.
Thermal stability: Nomex insulation paper is recognized with a UL material temperature rating of 220°C, which means it can maintain effective performance for more than 10 years even when continuously exposed to 220°C. This characteristic allows Nomex 710 insulation paper to withstand the long - term operation of oil - cooled motors in high - temperature environments without performance degradation or failure.
Chemical compatibility: Nomex insulation paper is basically unaffected by most solvents and is highly resistant to acid and alkali corrosion. It is easily compatible with all varnishes, adhesives, transformer liquids, lubricating oils and refrigerants. In addition, Nomex insulation paper is not damaged by insects, fungi and molds. This characteristic ensures the reliability and durability of Nomex 710 insulation paper in oil - cooled motors.
Insensitivity to moisture: When the relative humidity is 95%, the dielectric strength of Nomex insulation paper is 90% of that in a completely dry state, and many mechanical properties are actually improved. This characteristic enables Nomex 710 insulation paper to maintain stable insulation performance in a humid environment.
Radiation resistance: Even when the intensity of ionizing radiation reaches 800 megarads (8 megagray), Nomex insulation paper is basically unaffected. This characteristic allows Nomex 710 insulation paper to maintain stable insulation performance in environments where radiation interference may occur.
Non - toxic/flame - resistant: Nomex insulation paper does not produce any known toxic reactions to humans or animals, and it does not melt or support combustion in the air. At 220°C, its limiting oxygen index (LOI) is greater than 20.8 (the general combustion critical value of air), so it will not burn. This ensures the safety and reliability of Nomex 710 insulation paper in oil - cooled motors.
2. Application of Nomex 710 insulation paper in the inter - slot insulation of new energy vehicle oil - cooled motors
Improving insulation performance: The high dielectric strength and mechanical toughness of Nomex 710 insulation paper make it an ideal material for the inter - slot insulation of oil - cooled motors. It can effectively isolate the current and voltage between the motor slots and prevent faults such as short - circuits or breakdowns during motor operation.
Enhancing the thermal stability of the motor: Due to the excellent thermal stability of Nomex 710 insulation paper, it can maintain stable insulation performance in high - temperature environments. This allows the oil - cooled motor to maintain stable performance and a long service life during high - temperature operation.
Improving the reliability and durability of the motor: The chemical compatibility and insensitivity to moisture of Nomex 710 insulation paper enable it to maintain stable insulation performance in oil - cooled motors for a long time. At the same time, its radiation resistance and flame - resistance characteristics further improve the reliability and durability of the motor.
In summary, the imported DuPont Nomex710 insulating paper with a thickness of 0.22mm plays a crucial role in the inter - slot insulation of oil - cooled motors in new energy vehicles. Its characteristics such as high dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, thermal stability, chemical compatibility, and insensitivity to moisture make it an ideal material for the inter - slot insulation of oil - cooled motors. By applying Nomex710 insulating paper, the insulation performance, thermal stability, reliability, and durability of oil - cooled motors can be effectively improved.
