Most wardrobes start at 600mm wide. In a small bedroom — a rental studio, a student dorm, a compact apartment — those extra 180mm are the difference between "the door opens fully" and "the door hits the bed frame."
This single-door, French-style steel wardrobe is 423mm wide and 500mm deep. It slips into corners and narrow wall gaps that wooden wardrobes can't reach. And because it's made from 0.6mm cold-rolled steel with an electrostatic powder coat finish, it doesn't off-gas — no formaldehyde, no chemical smell, no "leave the windows open for three days" problem.

The 1800mm version fits standard clothing and folded items. The 2200mm version adds a top cabinet for blankets, seasonal gear, or anything that doesn't need daily access.
0.6mm Cold-Rolled Steel: What That Actually Means
Cold-rolled steel and hot-rolled steel start as the same raw material. The difference is how they're processed after the first pass through the rolling mill.
Hot-rolled steel is cheap but rough. Surface tolerance is loose — the thickness can vary by ±0.1mm across a single sheet. Welded seams on hot-rolled panels tend to show through the paint. Give it two years of daily use and door hinges start to shift because the metal itself wasn't dimensionally stable from day one.
Cold-rolled steel runs through an extra rolling step at room temperature. Tolerances tighten to ±0.03mm. The surface is smooth enough that powder coat adheres evenly — no orange peel texture, no thin spots where rust starts first.
At 0.6mm base thickness (0.68mm after coating), this wardrobe is 50% thicker than the 0.4mm steel used in economy flat-pack furniture. A shelf rated at 60kg holds winter coats, stacked jeans, shoes in boxes — normal wardrobe use — without bowing.
Formaldehyde-Free: No Off-Gassing, No Waiting
Particle board wardrobes are made from wood chips bound with urea-formaldehyde resin. The resin keeps off-gassing for months — sometimes years — after manufacturing. In a small bedroom with limited ventilation, that concentration adds up.
Steel doesn't off-gas. The powder coat cures at high temperature and leaves zero solvent residue. A family can put this wardrobe in a child's room the same day it's assembled. No waiting, no "smell test," no buyer's remorse from a chemical headache on day two.
The electrostatic powder coating also handles moisture. Steel + powder coat in a humid coastal climate holds up. Particle board + humidity = swollen edges, seized drawers, and a wardrobe that won't close flush anymore.
The Interior: Where Design Decisions Show
Adjustable shelf height. The shelf sits on metal pins that slot into pre-punched holes along the side panels. Move the shelf up for more hanging space below, or down to split the interior into stacked storage zones. The shelf itself has a raised lip on all four sides — a small detail that stops folded sweaters from sliding off the back edge into the void behind.
Hanging rod, included. The chrome rod runs the full width of the interior. Loaded with shirts and jackets, the rod transfers weight to the side panels — not to the back panel like cheaper designs that use a cantilevered bracket screwed into thin sheet metal.
Reversible door hinge. Single-door wardrobes usually dictate opening direction. This one doesn't. The hinge mounts on either side during assembly. A wardrobe placed against the left bedroom wall can open from the right. Against the right wall — flip it. No extra hardware needed. This matters more than it sounds: real bedrooms have radiators, window sills, and power outlets that force furniture into specific spots.
Steel lock with key. One lock, one door, one key. Keeps roommates, housekeeping staff, or curious children from going through personal items. Simple mechanism — fewer parts to fail than combination or electronic locks.

Who Uses This Wardrobe
Studio apartments and micro-flats. The 423mm width fits wall segments that standard 600mm wardrobes can't occupy. In a 25-square-meter studio, 180mm of recovered floor space matters.
Student housing and dormitories. Schools and universities buy these in batches of 30-50 units per building. Steel survives student abuse — kicked doors, overloaded shelves, spilled drinks. A wooden wardrobe in a dorm lasts 2-3 semesters before the lock area splinters. Steel doesn't have that failure mode.
Hotels and guesthouses. The French-style door panel — flat with subtle beveled edges — photographs well. Hotel photos sell rooms. A wardrobe that looks good in listing photos and doesn't need replacement every renovation cycle is two problems solved in one purchase.
Children's bedrooms. No formaldehyde. No sharp corners — the powder coat finish wraps smoothly around all edges. Cherry Blossom Pink and Sky Blue are the most popular colors for this application.
Rental property furnishing. Landlords and property managers outfit 10-50 units at a time. A steel wardrobe assembled once per unit and left alone for years is easier to manage than particle board units that need inspection and replacement between tenants.
