Used in electric arc furnaces for smelting.
These furnaces are primarily used for producing ferroalloys, pure silicon, yellow phosphorus, calcium carbide, and matte. Their characteristic feature is that the lower part of the conductive electrodes is embedded in the furnace charge. Therefore, in addition to the heat generated by the electric arc between the electrodes and the furnace charge, heat is also generated by the resistance of the furnace charge as the current passes through it.
