The specific steps for making molds of simulated vegetables

Prepare the prototype

The prototype can be a real dish (which needs to undergo curing treatment first, such as low-temperature setting and surface sealing), or it can be a model of the dish pre-carved with clay or resin.

Clean the surface of the prototype to remove oil stains and impurities. If necessary, apply a mold release agent (food-grade vaseline or special mold release liquid) to facilitate subsequent demolding.

Silicone gel blending

Food-grade liquid silicone rubber is mostly composed of two components, A and B. It should be mixed in the proportion specified by the manufacturer (commonly 1:1 or 10:1). When stirring, it should be done slowly and evenly to reduce the formation of bubbles.

If there are many bubbles, it can be placed in a vacuum machine for deaeration for 3 to 5 minutes. If there is no vacuum machine, let it stand for 10 to 15 minutes to allow the bubbles to rise naturally.

Pour the injection mold

Prepare the mold wrapping tools (such as mold frames made of acrylic sheets or silicone strips), and slowly pour the prepared silicone into the mold frame to completely cover the prototype.

For prototypes with complex details, the brushing method can be adopted: first, evenly brush a layer of silicone on the surface of the prototype, and then gradually cast to avoid the formation of bubbles in the details.

Curing and shaping

At room temperature (around 25℃), the curing time is generally 4 to 8 hours, and the higher the temperature, the faster the curing. The curing time can also be shortened to 1 to 2 hours by low-temperature baking (60 to 80℃).

After confirming that the silicone rubber has fully cured, carefully remove the mold frame, peel off the silicone mold, and take out the prototype.
