Cold-rolled steel — what it is and why it works
Cold-rolled steel is sheet metal that's been pressed at room temperature, then coated with a baked-on paint finish. It's not stainless steel. It's a different material for a different budget.
Here's what it does well:
It's strong. The steel core is rigid enough for daily dispensing — drawers full of herbs, countertop with a scale and packaging tools, years of sliding and opening. Cold-rolled steel doesn't flex or warp under normal load.
It takes color well. The powder coating bonds to the surface in a baking process. That's why we can offer red, white, or any RAL code. If your hospital uses specific color standards for different departments, we can match them.
It costs less than stainless steel. Not dramatically less, but enough that a hospital outfitting multiple pharmacy stations can save real money by choosing cold-rolled over 304 or even 201 stainless. The trade-off is that the paint can chip if you hit it hard enough. In normal use — drawers sliding, countertop work — it holds up fine. But stainless steel is more resistant to scratches.
